Smirk

Often at school or at my work some people often tell me 'whats with the smirk' and I have no idea I was even smirking...What exacly is a smirk and what sort of things are associated with it? I hope what I wrote makes sense, English isnt my first language.

A smirk is sort of a sarcastic smile. usually acompanied with a furrowed brow.

To smile in an affected, often offensively self-satisfied manner.

People are going to view things you do through the lens of their own experience. It could be that you are just smiling, but they have come to associate a particular type of smile with a smirk (which is a self-satisfied smile as people have indicated above). It stinks that we are judged this way as you can't know and react to everyone's personal experiences just to satisfy them.

You've been called a pretty boy, you're accused of smirking a lot . . . . People just don't think much of you, do they? :p

You shouldn't worry so much about what people are saying about you. You didn't really ask for advice, but there it is. ;) I hope it helps.

he was being sarcastic. please don't take offense, it's been my experience that sarcasm in english doesn't seem to "translate" too well. He was just kidding around.

Anyway. To answer your question, smirking is not a horrible thing, but it may just be what you're doing and not realizing it.

This is a smirk:

Sarcastic smile, furrowed brow.

Damn my neck looks fat in that pic. It's not though. (I SWEAR)... and the shadow makes me look like I have a fucking double chin or some shit!! Oh, and i'm fairly pale, not pink... damn white balance on the camera sucks my ass. The things I go through for you people. lol

Oh, and your english is just fine, don't worry.

Smirking and sarcasm go hand in hand. Ah they are one of my character strengths.

The "cat that swollowed the canary look."

I get it a lot also, just look at them and tell them they will find out soon enough.

Honest question; is your face partially paralyzed? A smirk is often unbalanced, higher on one side than the other. If you have partial facial paralysis, it might look like you are always smirking.

I am a world-class smirker. I smirk at everything. Not into smiling a lot so when I find something amusing I will usually smirk. I find it also keeps people wondering what I really think.

Don't sweat it, use it to your advantage.
