Alternative sources of protein...
Here's the deal:
I don't like any seafood or eggs. As far as I can tell, that limits my protein options to chicken, beef, milk, pb and protein powders. I'd love to hear any good alternatives...

I'm in the same boat; can't stand seafood (tuna makes me sick) and I don't like eggs. I eat a lot of turkey. Turkey sandwiches. Ground turkey Manwiches, ground turkey in spaghetti sauce, homemade pizza with ground turkey instead of suasage or pepperoni, etc. As you can see I use an awful lot of ground turkey.
I do put an egg in my protein shake when I mix it though and I can't even tell it's there. Oh, and I think certain types of nuts are high in protein too. I know soybeans are also. Last edited by Jadey; 12-03-2003 at 11:40 PM.. |

Chicken, lean beef, pork (although some disagree with that one) and protein shakes (whey in the morning and casein in the evening), cottage cheese and fish is what I use. Nuts are a good source of protein but you need to becareful of the fat, similar to peanut butter, its good but not in excess.
Have you tried cooking your eggs into different recipes, I experiment a lot with recipes, sometimes bad sometimes great. Good luck. |

If you will eat some meat you can always use pork, duck, pheasant, venison, and turkey.
Otherwise Soy beans in any form have a good amount of protein. You can use soy milk or tofu as well. Tofu works well chopped up in stir fry's where it absorbs the taste of the other foods and it has the texure of soft cheese. Also lentils, green beans, baked beans, navy beans, pinto beans, and kidney beans also offer protein. This site should give you a fairly good list of the foods that more rich in protein and soem other information on nutrients as well. http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcom...k/wt_rank.html

that is a good link. all the bean work great and can add quite a lot, plus fiber, which no one usually gets enough of. the reccomendation is 30 gr./day and that is A LOT!
