MY whole hand went numb when I was pregnant. It progressed slowly starting with the tips of my fingers and my pinky. It was Carpal Tunnel that I had dealt with before and during my pregnancy I had too much water retention that aggravated the condition. I actually had no feeling in my hands for 3 months. Creepy. The feeling came back in the same way. from the tips on in. VERY wierd. I ended up burning and cutting myself too many times because I didn't have the feeling of pain to warn me. Some things that help my carpal tunnel are NOT typing on the computer to much, making sure I drink plenty of water because water rentension makes the tunnel more narrow and things worse, and when it get's too bad I wear just a wrist brace that holds the back of my hand level with the back of my arm. That is the best position for good circulation. The brace also immobilizes the hand somewhat so that the tendons that run through the carpal tunnel will weaken just slightly and thin out just enough.
I don't know what your problem is but when you mentioned a numb finger - carpal tunnel came to mind. Of course there are many other possibilities. You can buy those braces over the counter at the pharmacy and it wouldn't hurt to wear one for a day or two. I find that when my hands start going numb normally just wearing the brace a day or two seems to help.
