A co-op program is an internship of sorts. What it usually involves is that around your sophomore or junior year you start working every other semester for the company. Also, the work semester will usually count toward 3 to 6 hours of credit.
The co-op program is a great idea if you would like to have a job right after leaving college. By co-oping, you gain work experience and you might even move to a higher pay grade than a regular student starting at entry-level. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely go for it! |

I second burntmonkey. I participated in the co-op program in college. The experience looks great on your resume when you graduate. You get valuable experience before you even get out of college. You get valuable contacts for when you graduate. There is no down side to co-opping. Well, except that you miss out on every other semester (or a full year, if you decide to do it that way), so you miss your friends, some good times, etc.
