Ever felt useless
Well I do today ...
let me explain: I play BasketBall here at home, and as you might know there are 10 player spots in a Team. At home we have 2 teams, the first team who plays in a higher devision and the second team a few devisions lower... This season I played in the second team, had great fun, played a lot and I had the idea I was contributing to the team. The first team played a great season, but there where only 8 players who really made the team every game the coach picked some younger guys to fill the 2 spots. But the last month I have been playing with them, learning all the plays, sitted on the bench for only 5 min of play. I kept coming and the coach told me he needed me for the playoffs (as backup for the PF and C). Now the last playoff match is te be played and every player talked to the coach what he will do next year. I said him I liked to stay with the first team, although I'm not equally good atm as his starting five postmen, but I was willing to train hard this summer. It was fine with him. (On training sessions I'm almost at the same level like the other players, I know i'm still missing a few things but then again, I only played for a month with them, next year would be very different) today I get an e-mail (yes email how not-personally can one get) that I was kicked out of the team, another player joined and he said I should go back to the second team. It's not that I don't like the second team, but I had my senses on the first team, I really was motivated to train hard this summer, do some hard workouts and stuff ... but now, damn I even start thinking about giving up the game I like so much. well I feel usesless !!!! |
That sucks..I'm sorry to hear about your troubles..Unfortunately life can be harsh at times. It happens to everyone.I'm sure you are not useless at all.You just need to shake it off and move on.If you love the game keep playing.Go back to the other team and enjoy yourself. That's what it's all about. If you're not having fun then it's just another job.You can still train hard and such this summer. You will do that much better on the second team and possibly get back on the first team if that is what you desire. If you do your best that's all anyone can really ask of you.......Just keep trying...

If that is your biggest worry you are in good shape, I think. Hell you can play basketball, I have difficulty standing.

Take it with good grace, and leave that bridge intact.
Who is to say the first team won't have another opening come up, and the coach knows he can rely on you if needed. Consider it paying your dues. |
I agree with mongo, you should play on the second team and work hard. Do your best to improve and show them that deserve to be on the first one.
|
It would be sweet if you could play for rival team and contribute to kicking the first teams butt.
|
Exactly that sort of thing made me turn hardcore nerd.
Yeah, I'm a computer science major, heh |
Half my life I've felt useless. I was an average student. I was never good at many things. My parents even told me I was useless. Now I'm 24 and realized that it's pointless to feel this way. I don't want to be like this the rest of my life. So now I try my best to be good at things even if I'm not.

thanks for the advice from all of you, I think I'll train anyway, and show the coach how wrong he was ! And hopefully get the second team a division higher !
thx |
I've felt useless many times, just think of something you're really good at and if you know that you are good at it, thats the first step to proving it to others.
|
I feel useless often, but thats just my lack of self esteem. If you make yourself happy, that's all that counts!
|
more determination when faced with adversity...especially when it's someone else who says you can't.

Dude, you got to ask yourself why you play. If you play because you enjoy playing, then it doesn't really matter where you play. I think it sucks that you got dismissed the way you did, but if you play because you enjoy playing, not being on a certain team won't matter once you start playing again.
Coming out of high school, I had an athletic scholarship to one school and an academic scholarship to another. I took the academic scholarship because when I talked to the players from the other school, none of them talked about how they played because they enjoyed playing. I've never regretted my decision. Even now when I play and can't do the things I used to be able to do, I still enjoy playing, because I'm playing not because I'm better than someone or good enough for a certain team. |
