Infants eating Fries?!?!?!?!?
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...alth_food_dc_4
Just read this story on AP and I am absolutely appaled!! As a fitness proponent and a father [my son is 8-months-old] I can't believe there are partents actually doing this to their kids! I suggest every parent read the books Food Fight or Fast Food Nation to see what damage they are doing! |
Shit, earlier this month I saw a child - no more than 8 years old smoking a cigarette. To top it off, he was walking along with his mother and sister (younger). I was shocked.
As for Fast Food Nation, after reading it, I found it a little to biased ... but that's what the other thread is for. |
My kids ate french fries growing up and none of them are fat. I wouldn't make it a staple of their diet, but, I don't think it's gonna kill them either. Hell, just walking outside in the polluted air is probably doing a good job of that.
I believe TV, computers and the internet are bigger contributors to our kids being fat. Hell, when I was growing up, all we did was play outside. Now, all the kids want to do is stay inside and watch TV, play on the computer or surf the net. Also, since we moved to the suburbs, the kids rarely use thier feet or their bikes to get around. Luckily, all three of mine like to be outside. |
I agree that kids today are too inactive. I also think that once in a while treats like fries, etc. are totally fine--I enjoy them on occassion.
The problem is that these kids aren't learning about th eimportance of healthy eating habits when they are most impressionable. |

That was a dwarf :( ...kiddin |
Kids today are WAY less active than even I was when I was that age. I mean, sure, I'm nineteen. But my eleven year old brother doesnt' do anything but sit and watch Tv or play video games. PLUS, he eats WAY more junk food in a week than what I was allowed to consume at Halloween! I could see french fries being okay every now and then, but... my goodness, people! Howthe parents eat definitely affects the kids. My parents ate way healthier when I was a kid than they do now, and my brother is picking it up, also.

Oh holy crap. FRENCH FRIES?!
With my sister and me it was baby food, vegetables, and cut-up pieces of chicken. My mom says I actually turned orange because I ate so many carrots. Probably helps to explain why my family's not a bunch of lardasses. |
I tend to be more careful of what I eat since I suffer from anemia when I'm not careful. My daughter still nurses once or twice a day and so I'm conscious of it for that reason as well. She definately has a sweet tooth and loves popcorn but I try to get the light butter kind of popcorn, not buy a lot of cookies and chips, and make some treats at home so I can control some of the ingredients more. I try to cut back on her sugar because I KNOW that when she has much sugar she is harder to control and more hyper. When I'm out to eat or on the road though she most often eats what I do and she LOVES the french fries. I'm glad that I don't have to work outside the home or I would be eating out more and so would see.

That's disgusting.
I'll give my 1 year old 2 or 3 fries on the RARE occassion I allow anyone in my family to have fast food. Otherwise, it's good wholesome food for all of us. I'm been overweight all my life, and I've had enough. I workout and eat right now, and I do everything I can do to make sure my kids are active and eating right from day 1. |
I live in KY and I have seen mother's putting Montain Dew in their toddler's bottles. Unbelievable. I will never own a fat child ;).

holy jeez. yeah, i agree with the last post- kids are already too hyper. kids need a balanced diet and i think parents need to force their kids these days to get out and play. kids are getting fatter because theyre lazy and just want to play on the computer and watch the tele. [of course, i have no room to talk...]

If I ever have a kid I'm not going to raise them fast food.
|
Wow! That's terrible. My kids never had pop touch their lips till they were 5 (thanks to a birthday party). Now that they are 7 and they hate the stuff. They say it's too fizzy and hurts their mouth, they are happiest with a glass of water and I'm happy to leave it that way.
I don't understand some people, it takes no more time to prepare healthy food as it takes to prepare unhealthy food. Even if you you're in a rush, it's just as easy to buy something good for you as it is to buy something bad for you. Oh well...:( |
