Cool thread Sparhawk, wish you would have started taking those pics when you first started exercising . Anyhow, keep up the good work. Also, start hitting your shoulders/traps and lats hard they seem to be your weaker areas. Try and take back snapshots as well, and I can only imagine you arent training your legs due to the fact that it is not a full body picture .

Bah, nm don't listen to me, I am going off on a tangent. Keep up the good work Sparhawk!

Timeline:
I started the good nutrition last new years.
I started the cardio a month later.
I didn't start weight training until October (so they're *all* my weak areas...).
Re: the full body/back snaps- I just didn't think of it, it's easier/more convenient to snap a couple into the mirror than to get my roommate to do it (who is on a completely different schedule than mine).

Try and get as many diff angles and poses as possible. It makes for a better record of seeing your progress. Check and see if your digital cam has a timer, it will make it a lot easier. How much did you weight before, and how much do you weight now? Your pecs are showing as well as some definition in your arms. I just told you to hit those other areas harder so they will grow on par with your other muscles that seem to be coming along nicely .

01/01/03 .. 205lbs (When I started)
07/25/03 .. 160lbs (When I was doing cardio 6 times a week)
12/18/03 .. 167lbs (cardio twice a week, weights 4-5 times a week)

A couple more workouts and I'll have my current log filled up. I think that's gonna be a nice opportunity to get with a trainer and re-tool it, see what's working, what's not, and go from there.

I honestly don't find this article motivating. I have no want or reason to become as big an asshole as this guy. Are we supossed to feel sorry for him, because he forces himself to train all the time? Or proud of him because he would rather spend time in the gym hanging out with like minded assholes than do anything else? Give me a break. The only thing that motivates me to exercise is to supplement my other hobbies.

That was honestly one of the most hardcore motivational things I've read in a while.

Although I don't ALWAYS agree with the things they say, I've found that T-mag does have some great articles, and incredible advice.

As I was reading this, I got so absorbed and soaked in the machismo flowing from my computer, that my mom asked some question about dinner and I replied something to the effect of "Fuckin-A"...in front of my mom, step-father, 10 year old sister, and my two aunts. All of them are highly religious, and NO profanity or other "questionable words" (i.e. "that sucks") are allowed in their household! Just goes to show exactly how riveting this article was for me!!

There are other ways to get motivated without arguments ad hominem... and there are ways to support your point without namecalling. If someone disagrees with you, they are immediately beneath you.

I think hypocrisy would be more apt?

Anywho, the article is somewhat inapprpiate at times, although does cover good points in there. You really shouldn't be motivated to work out by making yourself feel better cause you have bigger muscles than someone else?

The person probably has their own issues if they need to belittle others, to motivate them to work out and or make them feel better about themselves. Although there's other good things about general working out which are alot more appropriate coverd in the article as well. And no, i am not fucking bob either
Just 'cause you work out, doesn't make you better than anyone else. Who'da thunk it?

random sidenote: does working out actually increase levels of testostorone? i thought production of testosterone was produced in the body, independant of any sorta physcial activity? And also, people quite often take testosterone supplements...so?

Aside from the many other things it effects, Testosterone is the primary hormone that supports muscle growth. As we get older our bodies slowly reduce the amount of testosterone it produces. This is why it is easier for an 18 year old to pack on muscle than it is a 40 year old. Working out, proper nutrition, and even (believe it or not) watching porn stimulates the production of it in our body. Yes, some people supplement Test, but here in the states it is illegal to do so (not sure about Austrailia). However, what people can do legally is take a ZMA supplement or something along the lines of it that legally boosts your test levels.

People (including my wife to be) think I'm crazy because I will move nearly everything else in my life around so that I can train. And they may be right. If they are, I just simply enjoying being crazy.

yep, i get the point as well Although there are some other aspects of the article which address other benefits of working out, such as feeling and looking good. Theres also a discipline aspect to working out, and just self control and reliance, which is quite healthy.

Although, Bob might be a really witty, friendly and cool guy, who doens't excercise. Ever thought of that?

also, cheers Plan9 on that info. I've seen a documentary, on older guys taking testosterone, as implants every month or so, and it helps with retaining hair, general fitness, sex drive and all these other things. Albeit, it does make you more riskier and competeative, which is one thing i really hate about guys anyway, even though i do it myself as well

Well maybe aside from this post I am not quoting articles in my posts? You are a peon in my world and I wont continue to even grace you with replies to your posts

BTW, I got this aricle from T magazine. I thought that when I said,

"An article" is vague. "An article written by _____ for T magazine" or "An article in T magazine" would be good too.
And quotations, or italics, or something to distinguish it from your own words would be nice too.

After a bit of though I realize that this article could apply rather well to any goal in life. Just replace the word “fitness” with some other objective you wish for yet don’t pursue.

I really don’t mind it’s harsh tone of the article. Sometimes one needs to put pride aside and take a slap in the face as a wake up call.
