Congratulations! Did you do it only by drinking water?

FastShark85 10-06-2003 08:40 AM

I've dropped 34 pounds on the Atkins diet since July 28 (which also requires at least 64 oz of water per day).

Food Eater Lad 10-06-2003 08:55 AM

I saw my dad go for another surgery this summer, one caused by his eating. My doctor pointed out that I was heaver than him and most likey i wouldnt even live till his age. That scared me. I cut out junk food, sugar, soda, and for a month all I ate was chicken broth and somtimes vegatble soup.
I have 70 more lbs to go.

soccerchamp76 10-06-2003 08:06 PM

Damn strict diet.

Yoiu are taking some form of vitamins, right? (pills, fruit, etc.)

Please don't do that to yourself again, starvation dieting is not only extremely hard on your system, but also sends your body into starvation mode which will further fuck up your metabolism. Diet right, and don't worry about how fast you are losing the weight. 1-2 pounds of fat lost a week is ideal and will almost assure that you will keep it off when you hit your target as well. Congrats on a good start and hopefully you can finish off those last 70 lbs in a lot healthier fashion :).

By the way, are you doing your cardio?

Sparhawk 10-07-2003 04:20 AM

CONGRATS!!

Food Eater Lad 10-07-2003 02:28 PM

Nope I didnt do any exercise at all. I was too scared too. Been too fat an too inactive for too long. I am starting, slowly, do it it now. I feel stronger and more energised now, so exercise doesnt seem as scary. PLus my doctor just cleared me for it. I joined a dojo.

Awesome! Once you start doing that exercise, not only will you feel 100% better than you do now, but you will also start melting that fat away even better. Keep it up bud :)

Thanks for the support. Today a hot coworker called me skinny. I think it was the first time that ever happened.

Congrats again, and Plan9 is right. I've lost about 60 lbs in the past 18 months and when I started exercising it really started to come off quickly. Though, I've reached a point where I have stopped losing weight but I just had to go out and buy some more pants for work. As the weight of fat is replaced by muscle it becomes a double bonus.

Good luck on the rest!

MuadDib 10-07-2003 09:57 PM

Congrats FEL! It takes a lot of strength of will to do what you did. I hope you the best in the rest of your diet.

almostaugust 10-08-2003 06:46 AM

Well done man.

Loup 10-08-2003 08:38 AM

Congrats on your progress and as P9 had said the best way to lose any weight is to do it properlly - through diet and exercise.
I hope that your Dad is doing well.

Mr. Mojo 10-08-2003 09:48 AM

Keep up the good work!

My dad refuses to loose weight. He has had two surgeries and will not stop eating. I weighed more than him now, and when he was my age he was thin. So when the doctor told me that I would be in for more heath problems than my dad since he was thinner than i was when he was my age, it made me think.

For dinner i had vegatable soup. For lunch a half a bagel with cream cheese. For breakfeast a small salad. I had an apple juice snack and an orange juice snack between meals, along with lots of water.

My first class at the Dojo starts tuesday.

Stay away from bagels, they are horrible for ya if you want to lose weight. Also, keep away from the fruit juices while trying to lose fat. Water is your friend. Drink at least 1 gallon of water per day!

Your staple foods when eating healthy are:
Chicken
Tuna
Salmon
Milk
Cottage Cheese
Egg Whites
Protein Shakes (Containing Whey, a milk-derived protein.)
Vegetables
Oatmeal
Almonds
Whole wheat bread
..to name a few.

Instead of the bagel and cream cheese, have chicken breast on salad, or a can of tuna and some almonds. Stay away from the high fat carb foods like bagels.

yeah i just lost 30 lb, i got a job that requires me to move around ( i wash dishes like twice a week for 6 hours) and i cut out icecream (had one bowl last night first time in 3 months or so.

any way excersise and cuting out fat works great.

tritium 10-09-2003 02:13 PM

You lost 50lbs in one month on a diet of chicken broth and vegetable soup? Wow!

Food Eater Lad 10-09-2003 06:30 PM

No I started in August.

It sounds as if he's set in his ways - but loosing the weight does not mean stop eating. I don't know his age, but after a lifetime of eating habits the only way that you're going to change your eating lifestyle is by you wanting to change it. And it sounds as you have - albeit not in the best way that you want to come to the decission.

Glad that you're opening up the menu a little (from the chicken broth and vegetable soup). Have fun at the Dojo - Conrats yet again

I am currently down 37 lbs (249 to 202) with 28 to go to reach my goal. It took me from mid-June until now to lose the weight. I did it on the Weight Watcher's plan and doing 25 minutes to an hour of cardio 6 days a week. I'm to the point now where I'm starting to job using the couch to 5k running program, and the wife and I are going to start weight lifting at a new gym here in about 6 weeks.

Scrub0 10-10-2003 01:45 PM

I lost 42 lbs myself over the summer (260 to 218). What I did was cutting out junk food and only eating 2 bowls of cereal a day, and fruit, etc to fill me up. That combined with mountain biking made me drop the weight quickly. I'm taking a break from the diet now (for like 2 weeks), and starting back up after Thanksgiving dinner (which is this Monday in Canada). I'm gonna quit it for good when I'm at 180, which I assume is a normal weight for me (I'm 6'1 with a semi-muscular build).

ratbastid 10-10-2003 01:49 PM

I've lost 10 on Atkins in a week. Though Atkins himself says that the first week's loss is largely water weight. You wouldn't think that from how I've been hydrating, though! Geezo!

See my journal for details. I'm still on the diet, even though I haven't been journaling since the end of Week 1.
