What's the legal age to check into a hotel?

Well me and couple of my friends are going to Dallas for 3 or 4 days in the middle of October. None of us has ever checked into a hotel before. So I was wondering if hotels have a minimum age to get a room. By the way, we're all 20 years old.

Some hotels SAY that they have a 21+ rule. But you'd have to check with wherever you want to stay. When I was 18 I made reservations/stayed at a resort where they state that you must be 21 to be eligible to do so. Most typical places like a Super 8, etc don't really care if you show up with cash, but if you wanna make reservations in advance they can be little bastards. Since you're 20, you shouldn't have a problem. Have fun!!

I hope that's the case.

The thing that really worries me is that while looking at rate on expedia.com, hotel.com, etc. half of the hotels noted at the bottom of the page "must be 21 to check in."

I checked into hotels when I was 18 with no problem. As long as you have a credit card, they don't care.

Now I'm 21 so I really don't have to worry about it anymore.

Like someone else said, as long as you have a credit card, I don't think any hotel is going to care how old you are. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get IDd at a hotel before.

Dude, i work in the reception of a hotel on the weekends. Basically if you have a credit card and you look over 18, we will check you in. If you seem a bit dodgy, we will definately look more closely at your ID and stuff. Technically 18 is the limit though.

when I was marooned in chicago's airport for 2 days (I was 17 at the time) they said it was 25. They probably lied, but even if it was 21, it wouldnt have helped.

21 is usually the universal, for the US at least. Canada will usually let you if your 19.

Just to back up several replies on this thread, paying by credit card is the way to go. If you can pre-pay via the web, even better as you're already booked in when you arrive. My son is 19 and never had a problem in any country.
