What to do? Confused.. - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

My wife's aunt and uncle emailed me (not too hard to find my email address) .. anyways they have never talk to me until today and formerly told Shyla that she is 'going to hell' for marrying me. Shyla has a little bit of back child support, and we're both really worried if this is just some kind of scheme to get her or us in trouble.

They say that they were just worried about her and wanted to get back in touch with her, but she and I are pretty suspicious. We gave them our cell number which traces back to an old address and we do *67 when we call them.

What do you guys think? Is this a real attempt at getting back to know her (and possibly me) or is this some kinda trick? They have been in contact with the people she owes child support to and with her ex, saying they talked to them to 'find her' so they could get back in touch.

We need some advice from you guys

Pay the back child support and then you have nothing to worry about...'nuff said. Probably not helpful, but it's the right thing to do.

We are, and we intend to pay it, we just don't have all the funds yet.. (around 2k)

Can you get on a payment plan to show good faith? Things happen and as long as the current guardian of the children (don't want to make any assumptions) isn't a jerk, then they will understand and allow a reduced payment for now until you guys get back on your feet.

We are, but we're living paycheck to paycheck right now anyways.. If she got caught not paying and went to court for it they'd just drop the payments down further because she's in a lower paying job then when it was first evaluated..

I don't know much about the law system, but in my thinking they won't incarcerate you for not paying child support and having a few bouhced checks right? We are really trying to pay this shit off but it's going like 20-40 bucks a month..

She doesn't have any warrants or anything...

Anyways back on subject; you think they're tricking us or is it just a friendly jesture? I talked to him the first time and he just said 'some things were said that shouldn't have, and those were hard times..'

Ideas?

They will incarerate you here in Arkansas for not paying.

Payment plan sounds good. Better to talk than give them ammo to say you were avoiding them.

Call them (okay, *67 first) and let them know you're open to being in touch with them but you're worried and suspicious, you're trying to do the right thing but it's hard because of your situation. See what they say.

If you do speak to them, keep your guard up. No matter how they sweet talk you, there must be another reason for contacting out of the blue. If the back cs is being paid back, then there's nothing to worry about.

Doesn't make it any easier to do, especially in your situation.

Hell, call them from a pay phone if you think it'll help your anonymity. But do give `em a shot.

I would say.....and I'm by no means an expert.....that unless it's absolutely necessary to talk to these folks, I wouldn't.

Chances are if the circumstances seem suspicious then the circumstances are suspicious.

You already know what you're going to do....you're looking for independent confirmation.

In my book, being treated like shit and having my signifigant other be told that she (and most likely myself as well) will be going to Hell.....well, that's just a conversation ender.

Fuck 'em. They're distant family at best - or at least removed from the immediate family - and neither of you is under any obilgation to kiss and make up. If you're happy without them, then stay happy.

That's just my opinion.
