lazy eye

I have a really lazy left eye. It seems my right eye does all the work. sometimes people say it looks like im cross eyed because of my left eye. When I was a child the eye doctor said something about training the left eye to be strong again or something like that. What can I do about it? Would covering up my right eye and forcing my brain to use the left eye more often help? or is that bad?

Thanks

Glasses?

As for a easy method. I have no idea. But my boss's son has one as well. And over time it seems it has improved alot in 4 years that i have known him wearing Eye glasses.

See a optomitrist.

I don't have a lazy eye, but I do have a tendency to use my right eye a lot more than my left. When I was younger, my optometrist had me do some eye exercises (being a kid though, I didn't do them much).

I think depending on the severity and cause of the imbalance they can do one of the following (or something else, these are just the options I know about): minor surgery, eye exercises, correct it with a prism in eyeglasses or cover the stronger eye with a patch to force the weaker eye muscles in the other to become stronger.

oh yes, i forgot about surgeory :P When I was young, they did 3 operations on my eyes by cutting something back there. It went from really lazy eye to semi, really worked well. Now its not noticable with glasses on :P

Lazy eye(amblyopia) is usually caused when one eye is much weaker than the other eye. As a young child, the brain cannot accomodate two vastly different images from the eyes, so it more or less turns one eye off and just aknowledges the stronger image. Patching only works if done at a young age, while the optic tracts are still developing. The good eye is patched, and prescription lenses correct the vision in the bad eye. The brain is forced to start using the bad eye again
Unfortunately, most docs don't patch beyond age 7, as the optic tracts are well formed by that age and improvement is minimal. Surgery is done to the muscles around the eye to correct the inequality and is often very successful
