Ideas for a winter sun holiday
Hello all, I'm new to these fora and this is my first thread so if I mess something up, bear that in mind and please be gentle.
I'm trying to arrange a winter sunshine type holiday for me and Mrs. Prefect. I'm thinking to go sometime between January and April. Where would be a good destination to find some decent sun kissed beaches at that time of year? We're not millionaires either so one of those private isalnd deals is unfortunately out of the question. We're in the UK if that makes any difference. -this quickedit thiing is excellent BTW. I wish they had it over at SDMB |
Mate, would you be kind as to let us know what your budget is ? How many quids a day do you want to spend on a hotel ? and things like that ... would it be a week or more than that ?

Tahiti.
not Bora Bora or anything... but you can get quite reasonable accomodation on Moorea, and its pretty much as close to heaven as you can get. a little bit more adventurous would be to head up from Tahiti into the Marquises... Fiji is really cheap at the moment. due to recent coups. but that turmoil only really affected Nadi... not any of the outlying islands. Bali is very cheap, but thats due to tragedy. Kuta is far from being rebuilt. but, its still inexpensive, and you don´t have to stay in Kuta, there are other places to stay in Bali. however, if your coming from the UK (and i´m guessing you´ve had it with the Costa Del Sol and Ibiza), those flights may be very pricy. i remember someone saying that parts of Cyprus are delightful... but thats second hand info. sorry, thats all i can think of atm... i´ll get back to you in a bit with some more ideas. |
Well, I met quite a few of your fellow citizens in Cancun a couple of weeks ago. They seemed to be loving it and mentioned that it was reasonable priced for them.

Australia is cheap and getting cheaper... especially from the UK..
a bit of self promotion never hurt, I am decidedly biased |
ok, well being Aussie... i have to agree with ismark.
Australia is certainly cheap for you guys. but, instead of the usual Queensland, Gold Coast, Whitsunday advice (which in the case of the Whitsundays is great!!) i´ve been thinking about something a little different. how about Western Australia. i´m thinking there are three great sunshine spots... 1. Broome (also a centre for a massive amount of the worlds pearl industries). stunning long beaches, remoteness and stillness not found anywhere else. 2. Shark Bay (Monkey Mia). absolutely stunning beaches, diving, you can even feed the dolphins (i think thats still available, not sure). and... 3. Ningaloo Reef (recently in the news over protection against resorts and mining - so see it, its worth it!) ... amazing diving with whale sharks and manta rays (depends on the season) and stunning scenery. also, you might want to think about going right down to the Margaret River area in South Western WA. this is a region where (imo) Australias best wine is produced. its also a naturally stunning area of wild beaches, beautiful scenery. if you can, this would be a great addition to any holiday. hope this a help. |
