Cayman Islands

My girlfriend and I will be going to the Cayman Islands next summer. Has anyone been there before? I'm curious about any "insider" info someone may have about it. I've read up on a lot of general tourist info, but is there anything else? Thanks!

Cayman is fabulous! Great place to do snorkeling. Really a neat little town, but very expensive.

Why Cayman Isl ? Any particuler interest ? As has been mentioned it is expensive. Most of the foodstuff is imported. Except for beaches and off-shore bank accounts any other Caribbean Isl. would have the more variety....

I was able to get a good deal on a timeshare trade down there. I was hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. The place I'm staying at has a kitchen so hopefully we can cook a lot of our own meals...

Makes sense. CI is a British Overseas Territory. It's currency is Cayman Dollar; but USD is freely used. There are quite a few night clubs. Most major US airlines fly to CI from NYC, Miami,Atlanta etc. There are a few supermarkets in GeorgeTown (haven't been elsewhere) so you could potentially buy groceries.

If you want more specifics do feel free to ask...

Camyan is awesome. Stingray City is very obvious and touristy... but something you will not have many chances to do in your life...touching wild stingrays.

A great "local" place is a little bar called "The Tipsy Turtle". It is underground behind some building and you would not know it is there even if you stumpled into it, which you wouldn't because it is kind of a shady location. You will almost definitely be the only tourist there (it is right off the road along 7 mile beach).

Great Regee.

Where are you staying? Are you on or close to 7 mile beach? You might be on the east end of the island, ( Maritiz ? ) If thats the case, you will be a good distance from 7 mile beach. Things are a bit pricey and the US dollar is worth less than the Camyman dollar. $1.25CI = 1.00 US.
Do you do any diving?
If you have any questions let me know. I go down about 2x a year and have a pretty good handle on the island

Just went there in January and loved it! Another kinda tourist spot but I enjoyed it is the turtle farm. 7 mile beach was cool to see and of course stingray city is a must! Best advantage over other caribbean islands is that you can walk around and feel save.

Don't worry about the money thing. You can always make more.

You have to go to HELL and send people postcards. They have an actual postal outlet there and it is stamped from HELL. The turtle farm is cool and Stingray City as others have said is awesome. Nothing like holding up a 3' stingray out of the water is going to be a memory I will never forget. They have scuba diving around the reef as well different depths depending on you skill levels. They have an old pirate ship that you can sail on and have dinner.

There is a restaraunt call The Lobster Pod. It is a must to eat there.

Ah yes 7 mile beach well think sun, sand and more sun.

I must go back.

The Cayman Islands are stunning.. I went a few years ago.. Actually its cheaper then most islands, and if you're smart about where you stay then the living can be good as well..
- 7 Mile Beach -
Amazing, but this is where are the tourists are, its worth it for a day or a night, but you can find many more stunning beaches

- Stingray City -
I dont have to tell you how cool this is.. Its swimming with stingrays afterall..

- Botanical Gardens -
Im a photographer by hobby and I got the most amazing pictures here

- Stingray Beer -
Go.. I mean it, drink this beer.. Its not sold anywhere else in the world, and you can get a small brewery tour if you're nice.

- Hell -
Already mentioned above

- The blowhole -
Unless you're going somewhere in that general direction, dont bother.. Although, there was a cart there that had the best Jerked chicken I've ever eaten
