What would happen if I did this???
Hey there...ok...I have a question...what would happen if I had someone send me a package in the mail...now lets say I recieved the package...now I take out the thing inside and replace it with something else I wanna send BACK to the guy that sent me the package...so I screw up my address on the TO: part or just changed some digits or whatever so that it would be unsendable...then I drop it off at someones mailbox (or keep it at my mailbox)...that person would see that it isn't theirs and give it to the mail man...
would it go back to the return address since the address that I changed is incorrect??? Wouldn't that be free shipping on my part??? Just wondering...THANX C'YA ?:-D |

well unless what you were sending was the same weight... they might get suspicious... and what if the address you put turned out to be a real one... then youd be screwed...
not to mention it would be cheating the post office out of money... if you do this you will become one of the reasons the cost of stamps keeps going up!!!

And - don't forget the postmark.
I don't think the USPS is stupid enough to send something to the place it was postmarked.

With a letter it's really easy. Just change the position of your address and his, and then 'forget' to put a stamp on it. The post office doesn't usually check and will just assume it got too far (as long as you drop it somewhere where it'll get mixed in easily).

Mail fraud is a hefty fine and possible prison sentence.
So my question is, is it really worth chancing it for a few bucks postage? I mean, if you are gonna risk jail, at least steal something worth it.

If you recieve a parcel, you can put a cross through the address, and mark the parcel either 'return to sender' or 'no longer at this address, send to: [new address].' Both of these will get the parcel where you want it, for free. Mum forwards stuff to me at college all the time. But like these guys said, it's just not cool to use it as a scam.

Again, Metallica, it's not a good idea. If the parcel really went to the wrong address, then forward it, sure. But if you open the parcel, and then reseal it and send it on, you're committing a felony and face, at the very least, a hefty fine and a record for fraud if you get caught.
But thanks for the kiss anyway
