thin weak weird nail
My wife is complaining about her fingernails that recently became thin, weak and had split ends. Could this indicate some underlying disorder? Instead of going to the doctor I thought I would first ask you guys.

other than her nails, is she herself thin and weak? Consider her diet, does she skip any major food groups, say protein [which is what nails are composed of]? If she is otherwise healthy, consult a doctor.

Yeah, I would worry she is not getting enough protein. If she is on any sort of diet, meat is the first thing usually cut. Unfortunately, meat is generally the main source of protein for most people (unless the eat a lot of soy products.)
If she is dieting, and wants to stay on it, either be sure to have her eat more soy or other beans, or include fish. Fish is very high in protein but much healthier than red meat.
