Do you "connect" with any of your pets?
I have 3 pets. A dog and two cats.
My family took in the dog after my grandparents died, and the two cats were strays we took in from outside. I find myself connecting least with my dog, and I think it may be due to the fact that I didn't "grow up" with it. IE, it lived with my grandparents for about 5-7 years, and then moved in with us. My cats, on the other hand, have been with me (or I with them), since they were young stray kittens. I therefore seem to connect with them more, as they have been there all along. Unfortunately, cats are less loyal (and more independent) than dogs, so it all seems to balance out. In that, I have grown up with the cats, but they are an independant creature by nature. My dog joined the family at an older age, so we didn't connect, but due to dogs being more loyal/friendly (IMO) it probably has the same connection that I do with my cats. Don't get me wrong, I like all animals very much, I just have noticed that I seem to connect less with my dog than my cats, as it hasn't been a part of my life as long. If you can make sense of what I just typed, I commend you. It is kind of hard to explain what I mean, but the point of this thread is really to ask if any of you "connect" with your pets in that they are more than just an animal that you feed and let out throughout the day? |

I used to "connect" with my parent's old cat (died about a year ago)... she was the sweetest, cutest kitty one could ever hope for.
My current cat seems to be turning into a nice one too, but she's not even a year old, so our relationship will have to grow some more. |

I'm being malled by one of my cats (Sniffles) right now...she won't leave me the hell alone!!! keeps putting her paws on my face so i can't look at the screen....head butting my hands so i can't type...now she's yanking on my neckless....she is the most lovey dovey cat we have and also the biggest trouble maker.....her and i connect really well...cuz i saved her life...she was at deaths door when i took her in and nursed her back to health...when she showed up where i work she was not even close to being old enough to be away from her mom....she look disgusting...i was afraid to touch her ...she looked like she was disease ridden..her face had no hair because of all the puss...ewww sorry...that's actually how she got her name...i need to get her attention one day and called her sniffles just because and it stuck....she had to sleep in the garage for 2 months with my large dog...I was trying to find her a home but alpha phi brought her inside while i was at work one day and we ended up keeping her...she can't meow because of the bad infection she had when she was a kitten....thank-god she can't because if she could she would never shut up.. she bawks though..she also has an extra toe on both her front paws....she's a calico by the way and i love her to pieces...
I have 3 other cats too....I connect really well with 2 of them Raven and Iris.....Artemis was supposed to be my cat...but she adores Alpha phi and only alpha phi. all other BEWARE!!!! My dogs are my babies....i have the dog i grew up with she's 15 i believe (Blacky) Cleo is my big 5 yr old baby and I swear to god she can read my mind and vise versa

I have only had my cat since Decemeber but he and I connect a bit I think. He seems to like me better since I took him to the vet and stood there and petted him while they gave him shots. I would almost think it would have been the opposite.
Also we are very connected when he is latched on to my hand with his teeth and claws. I don't call him Scratchy McBitey for nothing. |

I have one dog and two cats too.
My puppy and I bond with deep scrrrrritches behind the ears and occasional romps around the backyard. She's a silly girl. She's about a year old and we got her six months ago. Lurkette and I take her to an obedience class, which is mostly about training us, it turns out. My cats mostly annoy me. They like L better than me, and rarely show me much affection unless they're hungry and I'm the only critter in the house with thumbs. |

My cat, Fuzz Bucket, and I have been a pair since I was five and she was a wild little kitten. She didn't trust anyone to touch her except for me. Now, when I go home and see her, all I have to do is call her--we have a special signal--and she comes running. She follows me everywhere around the house. She is still skittish and doesn't particularly care for many people, but for me she'll do anything

We have two dogs - and I connect with the older one on a whole different level than the younger one.
Don't get me wrong - I have no favorite, but with the older one, it's like - I think it, and she does it. We got the younger one from the pound when she was 5 months old - I think she was really abused before we got her - she's afraid of everything - especially loud noises. Maybe that's why - it's harder for her to trust us.

I connect pretty well with all animals, especially with cats.
I understand their "pride" system of order, and my cats accept me as their alpha male I also easily get along with other people's cats. Even the more cranky felines! Most dog's like me too, I've never been a dog person so I don't pay dogs to much attention. Well except cleo she's the sweetest dog I've ever met, really just a big kitty in a 60 pound dog body

Love my cat. She's great. I miss her being at school. She's a dog that got trapped in a cat's body though. That thing plays fetch and comes and all kind of other random stuff.
I don't think I really connected much with my fish... |

I connect with both of my dogs, but the one I adopted first is the one I am closer too. I have tried to be even handed and spend equal time with the second, but she is much more shy and just does not want as much attention. I know that animals have different personalities just like people do.

I've had three dogs that I've connected with.
My first was a mutt from the pound I got as a puppy, and who grew to be the kindest 110 pound mutt I ever knew (at least to me). He was the loyalest of my dogs, would never leave my side. After he passed away I got a golden retriever who never ran out of energy, and if you weren't playing with him would ALWAYS want someone to be petting him. My grandparents moved in at the time, and because my grandpa spent all day with him they connected similar to my previous mutt. After moving out on my own I got myself a rottweiler/blue heiler puppy. He's grown up with me and four or five other roommates, and even within the house he has his loyalties. Sometimes I feel I can read his mind. I've had other dogs that I've acquired later on in their lives, but did not feel that same connection with my puppies. They didn't have that ability to know what to do just from a look of your eyes. |
