electric ab belt
Does anybody have one of those electric abdominal belts that shock your abs into shape? I wanted to know if those really worked because I'm thinking about buying one. I heard they were taken off the market because they were dangerous. I didn't know if that was just a rumor or if it was true. If theres an easy way to get a good six pack, I want to know about it. Thanks.

What's your background? Are you already in shape and just want the abs to rip out, or are you just looking for "an easy way to get a good six pack"? If you're the later, I'ld suggest reading the other threads here regarding abs. As for your question, I haven't heard anything good about the ab belt or whatever it's called (although I have not heard the fact that they are dangerous). I've tried it at the mall once, and I just didn't like the fact that my muscles were contracting without my efforts - kinda made me sick a little. If you are looking for a suggestion on what to get, I would recommend a Swiss Ball. There are so many exercises that you could do with it and it is effective.

I suggest just doing crunches, sit-ups and other ab excercises to get good abs. They aren't very hard at all and much more effective. From what I've read, though, they don't really do much for you. I asked my physical therapist about it and she pointed me to an article that basically said they are shit. btw, if you are somewhat over weight, you won't see your abs until you start losing some poundage. Get on the cardio for that. Don't waste the 50 bucks.

Ah I remember in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story Bruce was wearing some sort of electric belt. He said something along the lines of: "You want to try? It's like doing 1000 push/sit ups in a minute!" I'm probably way off on the exact quote but oh well, someone please correct me if they know it.
Anyhow, I don't think those electric belts work. |

well all they do is electrocute you in a way that it forces your muslce to flex, and then relax over and over again........ you would probably be better off just flexing your muscles for long periods of time straight (now i dont recomend that on a profesional level, im just using it as an example)

ha. i tried one of those things. you have to pour this gel crap all over your stomach. i guess it's fine, but would rather just do the sit-ups than go through the routine of putting on and cleaning that vile belt.

If you want more information look up TENS units in an online search. Transcutaneous Electromuscular Neural Stimulation units. They are used as standard therapy tool in physiotherapy. They can provide excellent increments in both strength and size. The catch is, only to the point of previous homeostasis.
e.g. you have leg surgery and lose 6 inches off your thighs The TENS unit may help you get that 6 inches back faster than if you didnt use it, but no body of evidence in peer reviewed journals shows any results after the homeostatic point. This is because during rehab the body WANTS to put that size back on, it is working WITH you, when you reach this point the body is saited and the hormonal and metabolic assistance finishes, as does the TENS "magic" results.

i heard that studies have proved that they are ineffective and may actually be bad for you.
And yeah, hard work, good diet and consistancy is the best way to abs. Especially the diet part....in order to get rid of the flab in front of the abs. |
