Any other cycling fans?
Anyone else here ride? Cycling seems to be a pretty "dead" in the states... There was very little coverage of the Tour de France, and most people seem to know next to nothing about it. Personally, I love it, both road and mountain.
Road allows you to really just haul ass for long periods, which is a lot of fun. With mountain, you get the fun of technical trails, and being in the woods is always fun. I love rock gardens ;-) There is a decent contingent of riders here in Charlotte, NC, especially road riders. There are parts of town where there are almost always people riding--the bikers almost own the right lane. There is also some good mountain biking, much of it closer into the city than one would think. What is it like in other areas? Anyone else here ride? Road or mountain? |
Although I don't currently ride, biking is very popular here in Seattle and the Tour de France was a common topic of discussion recently. Maybe it's just that the region you live in isn't typical of the rest of the nation (though Seattle probably isn't either). I'm looking to buy a street bike in the near future. I already run extensively and it'd be nice to add in some bicycling to dviersify my fitness and perhaps even do a tri in the future.

I'm a fairly keen cyclist. Just upgraded from my Cannondale to a carbon fibre Trek (mmmm) - road cyclist, lacking in skills (ex-rower) so better at time trials and things than any real attempt at road races!

I'm a very big Tour de France fan for 3 years now and I was very happy with the Outdoor Life Network (OLN)'s converege of the event.
In terms of cycling myself, I bike to class... yeah that's about it. |
I used to race road bikes when I was younger and loved just riding for hours at a time. That all ended in college though. I watched the entire tour de france on OLN and it was great! I was so psyched, I dragged my girlfriend down to a race here in NYC last weekend. It was cool to watch live, but nothing like those mountain roads in france. It is amazing to watch the sea of people parting as the riders climb.

I'm fairly big into road biking. I think it's really fun to ride for a couple of hours. Never done any mountain biking though I might try it some day...
