Hmm was this bartender hitting on me?

To be fair I asked for a drink in an odd way she didn't understand (I asked for four fingers of whiskey). Then she made me a free drink. I asked her if it was ok to hit on the bartender and she said, yes. I'm a somewhat-to fairly attractive guy depending on the girl. It was a busy night so I never talked to her again. I usually don't frequent bars but this was the first free drink I've gotten from a fairly pretty female bartender.

Was she hitting on me? I'm always suspicious of those who work on mostly tips.

Yes, she was hitting on you...

but probably because when she hits on random guys at the counter they tip better.

Can't really say for sure though. Why don't you go back an ask her?

I was with a group, bar hopping and wasn't driving. I don't remember where it was. Also wasn't terribly attracted to her. She was the barbie type. I'm more interested in long term relationships.

Then why does it matter if she hit on you? If it's ego, just assume she was :)

A good bartender flirts. It helps them get tips.
Was this a new experience for you?

Part of a bartender's job is working the crowd .. you have a good experience, you'll come back.

Bartenders sometimes give free drinks in hopes you will give them (as a tip) the money you would have normally used on the drink.

My rule of thumb? If she works on tips, she isn't hitting on you.

No, first time i got a free drink though.

I used to get free drinks all the time, at a ratio of around 2-3:1

I love it. Bartender was hot, she liked me and made sure me and my party were always well juiced.

All my bartenders were well trained to know what I wanted to drink and would have it ready when they saw me walk in the door, they'd be making my drink and placing it at my seat as I sat down. Ahh, sometimes I miss those days.

Flirt with the bartender, if you don't get free drinks, it should get you heavy pours. Unless it's one of those corporate places like Applebee's. I didn't like drinking at such establishments.

Take it as a compliment and thats it. I get free drinks from time to time, and I dont take it anymore than a nice gesture (depending on the person). It does sound that she may be hitting on you or wants a tip later on. But honestly if your asking a question like this you dont have much game, so it wouldnt hurt to spit some game next time.

Count yourself lucky, you were probably one more free drink away from having your organs harvested.
Her Zeraph-skin handbag might just be next week's conversation starter for her next mark.
When tips are involved, never doubt your suspicions. My suspicions, however, use as you see fit.

.

This is what I do. I always tip very well, but if they give me something free. What comes around, goes around. I take that item I would have paid for anyways, and just tip them even more. :)

It's the little things in life that make it worthwhile. The manager at my local McDs saw my little boy with no toy, playing with other kids who had happy meals (we had just ate at home and were there for a dessert and playground). So he got a happy meal car and gave it to my little guy to play with.

It's the small stuff like that, that makes people VERY happy in an otherwise mundane and lonely world.

Are bartenders flirtatious, or just NICE because it pays off in the end? Who knows, maybe both. If you think you're good looking, chances are she thought so too :)

That's just part of being a good bartender. I don't care if I was in the middle of a 14-drink table order; if a good tipper walked in the door, I'd start making his drink and have it at his barstool before he got there.

Bad tippers . . . not so much. They had to wait until I was caught up with everyone else's orders.
