Ordering eyeglasses online?
Hi.
I need new glasses & I'm on a very low fixed income. Medicare does not pay for glasses/exams unless I've had cataract surgery. I heard about a website called Zenni Optical, where you can order eyeglasses for significantly less. Does anyone have experience with this company or heard stories? Any suggestions? |

I have the same request as jewels: let me know if you do it, and how it goes. I need new glasses, and also have to pay out-of-pocket for them.

Many people here go to the store, try them on and then order the same or similar ones online. Especially for their kids.

Zenni is good in a pinch.
I've had a pair of plastic thick-framed glasses from them for over 6 months. I'm not sure if all of the plastic glasses are like this from their company, but on my frames, there is a thin plastic overlay that imparts color to an otherwise clear frame, not paint. This overlay is now peeling off. The glasses are otherwise sturdily built and lightweight. I have no complaints about the lenses, and I'm picky when it comes to lenses. Even their cheapest lens type is high quality. My husband ordered a pair of their metal frames and has experienced no problems.

Did you decide to try them, ring? If so, how'd it go? I'm seriously thinking about ordering a couple of pair next week.

Not sure why I didn't see this before, but if anyone wants an alternative to Zenni, try 39 Dollar Glasses.
Discount Prescription Eyeglasses and Sunglasses - 39DollarGlasses.com More expensive for sure, but higher quality and quicker delivery. From 39 Glasses: From Zenni:

Last time I went shopping for glasses, I tried on some glasses at local places, and collected some prices. Made a note of model numbers, make, etc.
Then went online, and compared prices. If they would have been reasonably close, I would have gone with the local place and saved the hassles of shipping, and risk of not having glasses that needed adjustments. But with the cost savings being more like 50%, it was worth it to order online. And since they were the same brand and everything, it worked out fine. I'm all for supporting local businesses, but I'm not willing to put their kids through college on my own. C |

I get my glasses from the canadian version called clearlycontacts.ca
US one is here: Contact Lenses from Coastal Contacts - your Contact Lens Store Dirt cheap and great!!! I just got a pair of transitions, and a pair of sunglasses for a grand total of about $200. I have another pair of regular glasses from there that I spent about $50 on. The ones I got from the optometrists were $600 for my sunglasses, and $400 for regular glasses. So yea... check out that website! |
