Value of silver?
Are these worth anything? I just discovered (10) troy ounces of silver. They are indvidual, plastic-wrapped rectangles with "Silver - one troy ounce" and a serial # imprinted on them.
Are individual ingots worth more than a mass of the stuff? (Some people find pocket change. What can I say?) |
Isn't the value of silver listed in every day's business page? A jewler will probably try and give you a bum deal, so find one you trust.

As of 4/21/03 silver is going for $4.53 a ounce.... so 10 ounces would be worth $45.30
|
jezuz! the price sure went down.
|
well thats a nice little chunk of change you found. A poor person like me could use that. or donate it to the forum
|
I figured as much.
When I was a kid I found a gold nugget. That sucker was worth about $300. Silver sucks! |
If you're not hurting for the money, I'd make/buy a case for those puppies and display them. You don't see those things everyday, they could make a cool conversation piece.
|
I would hang onto them personally. I doubt the price will go down any..but i could be wrong...
|
I'd just melt them down into silver bullets.... never know when you might need to wack a Werewolf :D
|
they may be a peice of history the nazi dudes stole a bunch if you can find out where it was made or whatever it would be worth a lot more then regular silver it would also be wanted by a bunch of collecters
|
I would keep them just because I think they would be cool.
Here is another question for y'all. What is a rough estimate of the value of a gold bar? I mean like of the sterotypical movie (old west style atleast) size. Obviously it will very based on the exact weight but I mean ingenerally. |
Sell it to an unknowing chief of a village in an African dessert and you'll get to Zebra-bitches and acceptance into the tribe.

BBtB-
A bar of gold, Fort Knox style, wieghs 400oz, at $333.80 (at this moment in time) a gold bar would be worth $133,520.00 |
No,
After the Hunt silver debabcle back in the 80's, silver isn't worth that much. Still, some survivalists have a stash incase of SHTF and TEOTWAWKI scenarios where paper money is worth nothing. I'd hang on to it, it I were you, or I'll even buy it off of you at market plus the shipping. |
My friends mom blew a summer's allowance on silver back in the 60's, now its worth peanuts. But minerals are a natural resurce, and natural resources do get used up, and the laws of supply and demand say things that are in short supply are worth more. So when silver is rarer than a 60 year old (non-religous) virgin, it might be worth alot. That might take a while though.
it still has its sentimental value though..? |
no, there won't be silver shortage. If the price goes up 10 bucks an ounce, they'll just open silver mines that become viable economically, just like they do with other minerals.
