I'm not really sure why I'm posting this. It's generally not a great concern of mine, but the more people hear about it - the more intrigued and confused they are.

A little premise to my story. I've lived in Pubs practically my whole life. If I've not been running around one as a child I've been working behind one as an adult. I say an adult, I'm 20 years of age.

I've never drank, or smoked, or been interested in doing drugs. People have criticised it from time to time, some often have gone as far to say that it won't last much longer - some haven't believed me, some consider me weird. I mean, I go out, I generally really enjoy myself, I drink water - but I still have the uncanny ability to make a fool out of myself, impress the odd lady, annoy someone - all sans alcohol. So I've never bothered to care.

It's honestly been so ingraved into my lifestyle that I don't even consider an alternative. If I give it deep thought I can honestly say that I would never want to drink, or get drunk, for good. It's just a whole road I don't wish to go down. I mean, I've had some family issues in the past because of it, and it's almost given me a 'phobia' of being drunk, but to be honest I just don't even sense a feeling of curiosity to even bother being worried about it in the first place.

I think the reason I wanted to post this, was to ask whether or not you abstain from anything in your life, be it chocolate, drugs, you know - things that most likely won't kill you, but you feel better for being without. I know a couple of popular choices would be vegetarianism or veganism - but honestly they have a solid morale backing them and I find that to be a different kettle of fish, almost, to how/why I don't drink.

Anyway, I'm just throwing this out there because I see this is quite an intelligent forum and you can probably respond with some intellectual food for thought.

I've never drank, smoke, or did drugs either. I don't care if other people do it but it's just not something that interests me. As long as you don't criticize others for doing it then it's no problem.

I abstain from sex. It's not exactly by choice though.

The only hard drug I have ever tried was salvia (which was just the other day), and I don't even think that could be considered hard. So, no hard drugs for me. I have seen what they can do to people, and like you, it's just not a road I want to go down. I drink, sometimes, but I am rarely if ever drunk. I don't enjoy being drunk, and I hate the taste of beer, wine even more so.

I do smoke... like a fucking freight train, so I got that going for me at least.

Never smoked and never done drugs. Have no plans on doing either.

I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I think it's interesting that people engage in such activities. While I will occasionally have a drink, I have never been drunk. Just not something that interests me, I suppose . I'm one of those people that would rather be chill and hangout with a few people than go to a huge party.

Personal choice is just that - personal. Any friend that criticises your choice is not really a friend. I drink, but rarely excessively, but not really ever done much more than that.

I don't do any of those, either.
But it's because I've already had a lifetime's worth of all three.

Relationships. I'm far better off without them, and have chosen to abstain from them after the conclusion of my last.

Just think of the heartache, the disappointment, the frustration that comes with relationships. Just think of the people who fix all that with booze. Now remove all the negatives from that combination, and voila! A booze-induced euphoria!

No smoking for me, I like me sparkly teeth. I don't drink hard liquor frankly because I can't stand the taste and the few times that I do drink is when I am home alone and naked. I've never gotten drunk though. The hardest drug I've done is generic vicodin as of two weeks ago and I've only taken 2 pills total in my life.

First & foremost, congratulations. It took me over 30 years to quit relying crutches (pot, followed by pot & booze, then booze). Stick to your guns and ignore/stay away from the critics and nonbelievers.

Never tried cigarettes or drugs. Drank to excess once, never will again. Occasional social drink. No more caffeine, except if my colon is backed up.

ive been called many names. many people assume i dont do these things for pre-concieved notions. so i find it quite amusing to tell them why i dont drink, smoke or do drugs.

but... all the cool kids do it.

I only abstain from shooting up drugs. And speed, I really hate that shit. But it's just as stupid to look down on others for not doing it as it is to look down on them for doing it. Just be yourself and don't let anyone else tell you who you are.

Ehi but "Never Drank" means "Never swallow a single drop of Alcohol into my pure body" or "Never get Drunk"?

If the first: get a life, wine is tasty, beer is refreshing and without abuse a little alcohol can keep the night flowing.

I know plenty of people that abstain from drinking/drugs. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not like you can't still hang out with those same people or anything. I don't get why people need to criticize others for not doing that stuff. You don't need those to "live life".

Don't do any of that stuff because other people tell you to. If you're going to do it, do it because you want to. It appears you, like many others in here, don't want to or have the urge to, so don't worry about it. If others are criticizing you for it, fuck them.

Personally, I live under the philosophy of "try everything once" (not including drugs up the nose or into the veins), but that's because I have a curious nature. And....I like alcohol.

I think that is a little bad choice to criticize one thing (one that is perfeclty legal) without even ever tryied it. The knowledge that comes from the ignorance cannot be right.

So if one try once and didn't liked it, it's perfect to never drink anymore.
If one never try how can it say that is bad?

There's a vast difference between doing or trying something temporarily and doing it as a lifestyle.

My husband and I have done pretty much everthing in years gone by, smoking, drinking, drugs, sex in obscure places (Alltel Stadium during a game, now that was fun!), we've dabbled in a lot over the years. We abstained from nothing, even if it was dangerous. Every once in a while one of us will comment that it's a miracle that one of us isn't dead or serving a lengthy prison sentence. Every minute was worth it.

If you choose to live a certain way because that is truly how you want to live your life, then that is what choice is all about.

If you choose to live a certain way because you want to be "better" than others and demonstrate that you are "above" them through your behavior, then that is just stupid.

I think it's great that you enjoy going out, being goofy and don't feel the need or desire to drink. Live how you see fit and don't worry about what others think.

I'm not condoning illegal activities. It just so happens to be my personal philosophy. And, I do drink. I've been drunk on several occasions. Sometimes it's fun for me. And, I don't think the OP is calling drinking or any of that other stuff bad. There's a difference between calling something bad and not wanting to do it. The OP just doesn't want to do it. There's no reason that he should have to.
