I'm a good guy. I don't think dirty thoughts about women and girls in my life. I respect females.

But I also like to masturbate, and porn helps my imagination.

Lately, I've considered stopping all masturbation or at least, all porn viewing. My question is this: Is it really that bad? It will take a lot of pain and effort to stop myself, and I don't want it to be all for not. I hear warnings that when I finally find a girlfriend, I will not be able to pull away from the porn addiction. That's concerning, and I'm not going to fool myself saying that couldn't happen to me.

Still, I don't know if it's worth the pain to stop. Surely, once I get a girlfriend or find somebody I'm interested in, then I would have a very good reason to stop. But for now, while I'm single and still in college, I don't see the point of dealing with the frustrating of stopping.

What do you think? Should I stop now?

I look at porn daily. When I have a girlfriend, I either a) look at porn with her, or b) could care less about porn because I'm screwing an actual person.

How about this... You undertake an implied contract with society.

If the girls in the college agree to screw you regularly, then you abandon porn. If they don't - well then viewing porn is not cheating on them in any way.

One of the big reasons is that I illegally download porn to watch it. And, I don't really want to pay for it anymore.

The main reason, I guess, is because I'm concerned that I am a weak man for doing it. The strong could stay away from gratifying themselves.

I think you may be over thinking this a bit much. Do you think the other people around you don't masturbate? Self gratification is pretty universal. I think if it were consuming your life or getting in the way of responsibilities etc... I'd understand. But if it's not then I don't see your problem.

That's what we do. My boyfriend looks for samples around the Internet, puts them all in a playlist in VLC, and then we watch them together. That's right, together. And sometimes separately.

As to the OP: You need to realize that girls masturbate too. Lots of 'em. They don't necessarily cop to it, but they do it. We're all human, and we all need release once in a while.

Dude, you ARE over thinking this. Rubbing one out isn't a bad thing unless it's getting in your way of thinking. Then you have a problem right there.

And also, I think you should stop, until you get a girlfriend. Masturbation is not physically unhealthy, it may get you addicted to it, (by the sound of it it sounds you already are) but it also desensitizes your social faculties and you become less and less inclined to be with someone cause you do such a good job yourself. Trust me, I stopped cause it was way to god I felt I had to do it all the time. I usually get freaked out when something feels too good.

+1. Masturbating is the sexual equiv of scratching your own back. Porn is one of those fancy hand-shaped back-scratchers. People like to have their backs scratched in different ways and use different scratchers to get that "Oooh, that's the stuff!" feeling.

"Porn addiction" is a real problem when it happens but it only happens to a tiny amount of people (was going to use a widely overblown statistic, but Derwood doesn't approve), but the fact that you're worried about it and you're here at the TFP means you're on the first step already: admitting you're a weirdo.

Try taking care of business in the shower. That's one of the best places to do it, IMO. Just don't forget to wash down the shower wall when you're finished.

There is a section in the book Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson where the main character gives up masturbation for a while because he is very interested in this girl. He rationalizes it by thinking that's why the people from the Victorian Era were so tough. They were in denial and their sexual repression gave them incredible discipline. Might work.

If you aren't doing it too much then masturbating is in fact healthy for you if you aren't getting any. If you do it too much though the exact opposite can be said. If you aren't getting any it helps prevent prostate issues. Doing it excessively can injure you.

The only problem with it is if you make yourself feel guilty. We are sexual beings by nature so don't let it bother you.
