Job Relocation - Building new personal life in Memphis TN

So, it looks like I am moving to the Memphis, TN area for a new job. I am looking for both information on areas to check out between Memphis and Covington. Right now I need information on interesting places to live, things to do/places to go to on the weekends, and just general information on what the "scene" is like there.

Just make sure your car insurance will pay for an accident caused by someone with no insurance. You dont' have to have car insurance in tennessee.

Drink with the black guys in the park at the end of Beale Street, but don't let 'em piss on you and always tell 'em you're broke.

From a tourist's viewpoint: Graceland, Beale Street, the Peabody, the Pyramid, SUN Records, the Zoo, and the Lorraine Motel. They cook the bbq ALL WRONG in Memphis; stay way clear of it. Don't go across the bridge to West Memphis, Arkansas unless you're armed.

They cook the crap out of it until it is as dry as paper, and then they try to rectify that by smothering it with ketchup-based bbq sauce (which only tends to burn it that much more).

It tastes dry, burned, and old. Blecchh!

And don't get me started on those fools in North Carolina. They actually put cole slaw on bbq! According to Lewis Grizzard, the 11th commandment was supposed to have been "Thou shalt not put no damn cole slaw on bbq."

You gotta cook it low and slow, low and slowwwwww. And use a vinegar-based sauce so it won't burn and dry out the meat.

Memphis BBQ is very different than BBQ on this end of the state (G-burg). Memphis BBQ is way too sweet and dry for my taste. I think they cover it w/ what ever sauce they use to hid the taste. As for the cole slaw, I've seen it, and don't have a clue as to what they are thinking. YUCK! (w/ spitting sounds)

As for the car insurance, for some reason I think that law changes this coming January '04, where all cars have to carry atleast liability insurance.

Anyway I can't really say anything about Memphis, I try and avoid it as much as possible. It's much quiter on my end of the state.
