What did you do for the first time in your life today?

Maybe this thread exists someplace, but I couldn't find it. What is something you have done recently for the first time in your life? Doing new things is something I want to do more of this year.

I saw my baseball home team on the road and was that guy in the stands rooting for the visiting team.

Willravel 05-05-2008 08:34 PM

I bought a brand new dipstick today. I've never done that before in my life. I also used a barbecue cleaning brush on the engine block, which worked quite well with Simple Green.

I want to do that.

Nothing new for me today. It was a pretty routine day.

I taught myself to play Getting In Tune by The Who on piano (or keyboard, actually). It is the first real tune that I've learned entirely without aid for the keys and it excites me that I've progressed far enough to play it. Given that I just started playing in November I don't think I'm doing so bad. Not great, but certainly not bad.

And yeah, I know it's a simple song. Still and all.

Next up is Baba O'Reilly. I swear I'm going to conquer that beast if it kills me!

Randerolf 05-05-2008 10:20 PM

I'll slide under the bar by saying....yesterday

I rode my bike to work for the first time. The sun was warm with a few fat puffs of clouds in the sky. I still need to adjust the seat, because my legs started to burn on the way back.

echo5delta 05-05-2008 10:29 PM

hey, willravel: if you really want to take the elbow grease out of cleaning your engine, use a can of Coca-Cola. It's magic - seriously. (No off-brands, though; gotta be Coke!)

Oh, topic?

I actually finished reading an entire article in Esquire. I feel like such a big boy now!

dlish 05-05-2008 11:23 PM

i saw my accountant at his new office..pretty mundane stuff i know...

ive been reduced to chores while on holidays

smoore 05-05-2008 11:29 PM

I went to an internet friends' house to ply my trade. I'd never helped a "forum buddy" out repairing carpet before. I charged him a buddy price but it paid my gasoline bill this week.

Shauk 05-05-2008 11:55 PM

went to a gym o.o

like, of my own accord, and not part of some P.E. class.

I know, it's shocking.

Punk.of.Ages 05-06-2008 12:31 PM

Drove.

Just the other day.

It was just down the street, but it's a start....

amonkie 05-06-2008 12:46 PM

I had a Tofutti confetti Mint Chip frozen delight sandwich.

highthief 05-06-2008 02:13 PM

I ran my first 10 km race this weekend! Had done some 5 km races but never a 10. Beat my projected time by 2 minutes, to boot!

LordEden 05-06-2008 02:47 PM

Made a order to our food distrubitor for the resturant I work at. Not a big one but it's the first managerially duty I've ever done at a job.

Jetée 05-06-2008 02:54 PM

I listened to some Coltrane.

stevie667 05-06-2008 03:28 PM

Front squats. Absoloute b*****ds.

Charlatan 05-06-2008 04:05 PM

I just had a chat with our new office cleaning lady...

genuinegirly 05-06-2008 04:25 PM

What a fun thread!
I just... wait... no, that's not new.

World's Queen 05-06-2008 05:01 PM

I got a shower, and was in there for at least 5 minutes before i realized I forgot to take off my underwear. I've never done that before. I am ridiculously sick though, so I think it's understandable.

smoore 05-06-2008 05:10 PM

Whee! I just rode my bicycle on a busy divided "main street". I kinda screwed up my route to the bank and ended up either taking the non-sidewalk or the road for 3 blocks. It wasn't bad at all, I took the left arrow and hammered the poo out of my bike, only ended up getting passed by one car and she was pretty respectful, 3.5 or 4 feet separated us.

Taking the lane is GREAT! I just learned this technique recently and it really helps with cars respecting you.

I'm going to try to be able to post in this thread two or three times a week, new stuff is exciting.

What are you working on and what are you doing to it, anyway? I didn't see any thread over in Motors. Are you just giving it a good bath or is there some project going on?

blahblah454 05-06-2008 06:45 PM

I got my first real job, I start on Thursday (yea I know, weird day to start)

*Nikki* 05-06-2008 07:40 PM

I went to a couple of stores looking to buy room darkening curtains for my daughters room. No luck. All the styles were for old ladies :)

Tirian 05-06-2008 10:15 PM

Started building a Pine Car derby car. This is the first time I made one of these. Pretty fun so far.

Baraka_Guru 05-07-2008 03:24 AM

I made miso soup from scratch for breakfast....and on a weekday!

Redlemon 05-07-2008 05:11 AM

I just gave away something through Freecycle. We had some furniture that wasn't being used and we needed the space.

Try ordering from Smith+Noble; most of their shades have "blackout" options, the quality is good, the installation instructions are excellent and easy, and (I think) the price is reasonable.

Congratulations. Actually, inventory and and waste control are the reasons why many restaurants either succeed or fail. Are you going to be moving in to a food and beverage controller position?

PlanG 05-07-2008 10:32 AM

Found one friend valued my friendship more than I realised she did :)

ASU2003 05-07-2008 05:00 PM

I drove in the rain without windshield wipers. The driver side wiper broke and wouldn't work.

Willravel 05-07-2008 05:03 PM

Since FightingAtheist is on holiday from making YouTube videos, I decided to try one out. It was kinda fun.

Fotzlid 05-07-2008 05:07 PM

Dug a 15'x12'x6" hole.
Putting a veggie garden in.

echo5delta 05-07-2008 05:49 PM

I watched "Army of Darkness".

Yeah, I know, I'm a little behind on that one...

Hey thanks!! I checked that out and it is an amazing website. I would LOVE to order from them but that is way over what I can afford. Maybe someday :)

KellyC 05-07-2008 07:33 PM

I just got a really kick ass hair cut today....but it was more than I can comfortably afford....

It the first time I ever got such a good hair cut, so I'm counting it.

I'm going to be doing that for the first time pretty soon. Well mine is only 11' x 11' x 6" :)

pppg 05-09-2008 09:33 PM

Attempted to drive a Ford GT on the new Gran Turismo without traction control. Makes you appreciate the HP of the car. (not exciting but new)

Push-Pull 05-10-2008 07:36 AM

I slept in until 8am. At least it feels like the first time. This week has been very, very crazy.

blahblah454 05-10-2008 08:37 AM

I got a company vehicle

StellaLuna 05-10-2008 12:23 PM

Potted strawberry plants and a peony bush.

highthief 05-10-2008 12:48 PM

I went on some rides at the local amusement park with my daughter that I'd never been on before - a small coaster called Taxi Jam, a helicopter ride that runs on an elevated track, and Dora's Dune Buggies, which basically goes around and around. Hey, she's 3 - we're not going on the Behemoth or anything for a few more years!

Jetée 05-10-2008 12:52 PM

I went into Freezone while listening to Rush. :)

genuinegirly 05-10-2008 01:30 PM

Noticed the level of dust in the apartment without feeling upset.
