I am one step closer to my dream job

So I got a letter from the State Department today. After clearing the oral assessment, undergoing the medical screening, and keeping my fingers crossed about the background security check somehow digging up skeletons that even I didn't know about, they just informed me that I was added to the waiting list for appointment, good for 18 months. This was the last hurdle I needed to jump before I get the official welcome aboard letter.

If all goes well, before the year's end Quasi will be worldwide.

Fixin radios. There's 31 'hub' embassies that I could be assigned to. When necessary, I dispatch to branch embassies and consulates to repair their radio and satellite equipment. In my excitement at passing the interview, I forgot to ask them which embassies these are, but they gave me their email address if I had any questions, so I'm going to send an email to them in the morning.

Nice... hoping you're on the short list of accepted people.

Ahhh... I remember taking the FSWE a few years ago. I didn't pass but I did do well enough for them to encourage me to try again.

Did you have to take that test?

I applied to be a Foreign Service specialist, so the testing criteria is not as rigorous as it would be for Foreign Service officers. I had a 45-minute timed essay to write based on one of five given subjects, and then I had the one-hour interview, half of the questions tested me on whether I would be a good fit (not cause an international incident) and if I knew my technical stuff. I scored pretty high on both parts, so I'm hoping it's a short wait.

When I was researching how to get into the Foreign Service, I saw lots of stories of people who had to take that test more than once before they passed. I'm sure you'll do much better the next time around.

I know a guy that installs and maintains networks for embassies all over the world. Great guy, does a LOT of traveling as you might imagine... not always to the most hospitable of places.

Congrats on the job though.

They've just made an informal offer, I've accepted, and the official offer letter is in the mail.

Quasi is going international.
