Discussion on Classic Shaving Equipment and Techniques (Straight and Safety Razors)

I didn't want to threadjack the shaving poll with a discussion on just classical shaving, so I started this new thread.

As posted in the previous thread, this is what I currently use.

I'm thinking of getting a new razor though, and was wondering what everyone's recommendations were. I currently have a 4/8 Full Hollow Dovo. It's great, but I'd like to get a second one. Perhaps a little better than an entrance-level razor.

That kinda makes you a badass. I really wish I knew more about straight razors than what I can find online, but I have yet to switch from a Mach 3 to a man-blade.

Classicshaving.com has a pretty large help section, you can pretty much find everything you need on there. And if not, you have the TFP

As far as being a badass, the first time someone finds out that I use a straight razor it's "Really? Did you ever cut yourself?" followed by "Damn, that's pretty cool". haha

But I find it far superior to newer razors, especially the multi-blades. I no longer get ingrown hairs, I'm not buying new razors every month, and it forces you to slow down and enjoy your morning.

There is no way I'm going to stick a large blade like that near my skin. I'm sticking with my Venus.

AngelaSI, I've heard that a safety razor works better for women. It's probably easier to use on all the curved surfaces such as legs. My wife is intrigued, and she may yet try the safety razor. But she also agrees that the straight razor is not for her. ( I think it was after I told her the straight razor would take off a toe if she dropped it in the shower :oogle: )
