Dress Like a Mac!
How to Dress Like a Mac
This is so useful because I'm pretty clueless about fashion. But, hey, I wouldn't mind dressing like this guy. Anyone else have any tips on this? I have Winners gift certificates.

huh. i had no idea that the way i dress usually could be confused with fashion.
this because i agree with wk that it is a lazy look---but i am lazy when it comes to fashion. that's why it surprises me.

I don't get this "lazy" thing. Do you mean lazy-looking, or logistically lazy? I mean, it takes, what, an extra 5 to 10 seconds to do up a dress shirt?

well, i am explicit about it in 3-d: i do not like shopping and am not occupied particularly by engineering my look via clothing.
i know folk who are the opposite, and see them as busy shoppers, people who like to work at shopping for whatever reason--and compared to them, i am a slug. i could wear suits all the time if i wanted to--but that would require looking for them--and that i'm not inclined to devote the time and energy to doing. i suspect that alot of this comes from my extended past as a guy weighing 500 lbs, during which there was not a whole lot of point in going shopping at most stores because there was little chance of finding anything that'd fit. and i found "big man" stores to be abysmal places, full of clothing that seemed designed around the idea "if you weigh this much, it doesnt matter how you look"--but that might be a consequence of my simply not liking the stores i could find. at this point, i could change my attitude, but i kinda like not shopping, not taking it seriously, not looking for a new version of myself or to version myself via accessorizing. tho a little chanel number never hurt anyone. so yes: i am a lazy consumer of clothing---but there's nothing perjorative about it. in fact, i affirm non-activity with respect to retail clothing outlets as a positive thing. but i have no problem with folk who enjoy clothes and find that they are sometimes like interesting trees in the garden of my visual field. so those folk devote attention to shopping--i'd rather devote the time to sitting around in a coffeehouse doing other things. besides, i get snippy in retail stores. so i figure reducing my exposure, and that of others to me, is a win-win situation. being lazy is a public service.

I'm generally coming where you're coming from too, roachboy. If I did wear a suit, it would be the same high-quality suit worn everyday, cleaned when required and worn until ruined.
Shopping is a rare thing for me, so I try to do it "right."

I'm no fashion expert but... The importance of this sort of style is comfort. Think of it in terms of how Apple want to market themselves, cool but very useful at the same time. Don't wear two items that our the same colour, ie you can wear a light grey and a dark grey but don't get them too close in shade. Keep it loose but not baggy. Jeans should be dark, jean shaped cords are another option.
It should look nice but have a function, zipped hoodies are good because you can zip them up if your cold and put up you hood if it rains. Avoid anything dressy, like don't try to wear anthing but smart/casual trainers, no scarves neither. Last edited by belezabaub; 01-06-2008 at 04:24 PM.. Reason: repeated myself |
