Which class should I take??? Spanish or French???

Hey there...I will be taking a college language course sometime soon...I can't decide which course I should take...spanish or french???

I would go with spanish cause it's easier than french and it's more common and it's the language that ppl in South America speak...I was born in SA but adopted when I was a few months old and went to USA...

I would go with french cause I USED to know french when I was a little baby...I was adopted and went to Kansas City and the lived in Belgium somewhere in Europe and ended up learning French...I had already learned to speak English so when I was around French ppl all of a sudden I started to learn that too and ended up inventing Frenglish...my english words mixed up with my french words...I would also go with it cause girls dig it...it's the romance language...I would also go with it because spanish is so widely known...there are more ppl that know spanish than french...

Any suggestions??? THANX
C'YA ?:-D

you laid it out pretty well. shouldn't be too hard to make yoru choice, what do you need us for? beyond that though, i'd say french. i learned spanish and hated it. french sounds much better to the ears, it really is a beautiful language. and at the college level, there really won't be much of a difference in difficulty. it'll probalby be 4 days a week, with lots of work either way.

Well, other than that, you might also consider the fact of usefullness. Sure girls dig it. Won't help you much though. You can say 5 or 10 sentences in french in a whole month, just at the one occasion where you meet a girl that is impressed with that.

But as far as I know, Spanish would help you alot more, right now, and also later on, because more people speak it.

Or it could just be me not liking French

And if you lived in Belgium, then it's likely you learned French there, it's one of our two national languages, next to Dutch.

i'll help you do the math.

spanish class 30 students: 18 male; 12 female
french class 30 students: 5 male; 25 female.

for some reason guys just don't take french. they take spanish, german or who knows what. i took 3 years of french and these numbers held everytime.

for what it's worth.

Hey I took french, didn't do shit for me.

I learned spanish on my own, and I use it often,
it just comes into to much use now that there is such a large hispanic population in the U.S.

And if you are thinking about ladies,
then think about this, how many hot hispanic chicks that are there?

I don't meet any French ones here in the States.

I'd say take spanish, you'll get something out of it.

I think you'd find spanish more useful in everyday life, given the increasing hispanic population in the U.S.

I took french from when I was 5 years old until I was 14 (in fact, I was forced to take most of my grade school in french, and I'm an anglophone) I was able to pick up spanish with my eyes closed afterwards. Either one you take, the languages are so similar that you'll be able to learn the other very easily, especially if you pick up a bit of Latin.

dont learn french.

it will screw you up.

here's why i say that.

in my spanish classes, spanish people have an extremely hard time doing stuff. it's not cuz they dont know spanish, but they dont know the basic's. so, i say start over from scratch, so you wont be confused.

besides, hispanics are getting bigger than the french speakers. you'll have more people to communicate to.

viva espanol

I'd suggest whatever you will actually be able to make the most us of. I've been taking spanish for 5 years now, and actually got to put it to use when a few of the members on our volleyball team didn't speak any english, which was pretty cool to actually apply something I learned.

The only advantage would be that you would be able to speak French without an accent, becuase when you are young, you develop the muscle memmory that gives you the traits in your speech. I assume that you were in that window when you learned french.

I would recomend Spanish though. I've studied it in High School and in college and it is much more useful as a language in real life. I had to use it last night at work acctually.

Spanish, simply because it is more useful in the U.S.

Spanish will be much more useful, and once you've learned that it's a quick hop to learning French if you really want to.

Yo creo que Espanol es mejor tambien!

Two things that you should consider that have had great influence on my life:

1) I dont know what you want to do in terms of a career, but the business opportunities in South and Central America are huge, and this is just the beginning,

2) If you learn French, great, you can speak to the locals when you visit... erm... France. Wow. Learn Spanish, and you have a whole lot of fantastic countries to visit and practice. Not to mention a much wider selection of FANTASTIC chicas

I took two years of french in highschool and have yet to find a use for the knowledge, aside from watching the occasional french film and a linguistic perspective. Recently at the college level I've been taking spanish and have found multiple applications in the unlikliest of places.
Based on my own experience, I would recommend choosing a language based on its application rather than its appearance. But then again, I drive one of those plain looking cars that run forever and get good gas milage.

Take Spanish!! Like others have said, it's so much more useful. And, unless you plan to actually go to France, you'll probably lose your ability to speak French as the years go by. If you take Spanish, you can always keep sharp by watching the Spanish Channel! Also, in this somewhat tough job market, Spanish fluency can definitely help, whether you'd like to get into sales, management, law, law enforcement, education or others. Take a look at the want ads and see how many positions require Spanish vs. French fluency.

Here ya go....use these mathematical formulas to help guide you.

French: More Girls / Less Guys + No usage = Better % of getting laid (during semester) but will never use it when youre done with the class

Spanish: Less Girls / More Guys + Lots of usage = Lower % of getting laid (during semester) but will use it on chicks in TJ during spring break so you will be getting laid more down the road.

I'd say Spanish. Its like a 401k. Bad for short-term investment but good for long-term.

I recommend going with Spanish. Take a latin dance class at your university after taking Spanish if you're still lacking in the lady department.

It's just too useful compared to French. Plus, according to the last census, Hispanics are going to become the largest minority in the United States within a few years. Definite incentive.

You should take Spanish, but I may be a little bit biased, since I live in Miami. And to add to Vyk's post, Hispanics are ALREADY the largest minority in the US. See:

Spanish, hands down. In northern VA there is a HUGE Latino population, and it's probably the same in most techno/big areas.

With French, there are only a small handful of countries you can go to.

I studied Italian. I was in Italy a lot. Funny thing, most Hispanics understand it.

Spanish. It is becoming a major employment plus. So many more uses for it. Which means you won't forget it so easily.
