You pussies. I use my dive knife.
But every now and then I use my Norleco Flex Head.

I use a headblade on the noggin and a Mach 3 Power for the rest. The Headblade is the greatest thing in the world to shave with once you get used to it, very few ways to cut the scalp (which bleeds like you wouldn't believe). Would never have purchased the Mach 3 Power (looked too gimicky) but got it as a gift for Christmas. I was surprised how well it actually works, I've not had any cuts or nicks since I switched over from the traditional Mach 3.

My first razor was a Norelco, when I was a teen. I hated it from day 1. Electrics always left my skin feeling creepy. I grew my mustache and goatee (both history now) because I hated shaving so much.
I use 2 or 3 bladed disposables. Bic and Schick both seem to work well with a gel for sensitive skin. I use Nivea for Men moisturizing after shave. I never liked the astringent ones. I've never had ingrown hair problems with a regular razor, although I did with that old Norelco. I can even shave across or against the grain without irritation.

Electrics for me. My beard hair is very coarse, and will dull an edge out faster than usual, and it always irritates the hell out of my skin. My five o'clock shadow starts to show up by late afternoon anyways if I shave in the morning, so the electric is faster/more convenient.

Okay, for those of you that use straight or safety razors (double-edged variety)... any tips on sites to get good info about them from? I'm thinking about switching, but don't know a LOT about it either way...

I have a Norelco electric razor which I use the majority of the time because I'm too lazy to use a razor. However, when I want a really good shave, I'll use a Mach 3.

I recently made the switch to a straight razor. I bought a really nice 1/4 ground LeGrelot like this one.
I've been using it for almost a month now and am really starting to get some phenomenal shaves with it. No ingrowns, no irritation, just smooth. Although the razor, strop, and hone did cost me about the same as a two year supply of Fusion cartridges it is neat to know I will be able to shave with this same razor fifty years from now as long as I take care of it. |

I must have facial hair of the gods or something because it doesn't matter what I shave with, it's never close enough. Electric razors are useless, they don't cut a damn thing.
Best razor I had was an Atra, only had 2 blades and was a no nonsense razor, no promotional jargon, no lubrication strip, no special zomg triple razor vibration crap. I've tried and still use the mach 3, on top of the razors costing an arm and a leg, it's a pretty mediocre shave imo. |

Gillete Sensor Excel, now discontinued, but cartridges & handles are still available if you do some searching on the net.
Electric razors irritate my skin, & the three and four blade systems don't give a good enough shave to justify the expense of the cartridges.

I've since switched over to a straight razor with disposable blades, or a double edged safety razor if I'm short on time. Much closer shave, no irritation, only cut myself once and the occasional little nicks close right up with alum.

(raising this one from the dead rather than starting a new more or less identical thread)
I started out with a Gillette Mach3 like my parents used but that didn't agree with my face so I switched to the Schick Quattro a friend had ordered to me. Eventually I settled on buying this big handle/4xbladepack combo at sams/costco whenever I ran out of cartridges. As of about 30 minutes ago I took my first (inexpensive trial step) into the Straight world: Surprisingly not much more blood than I got with the gillette at first, which apparently is a respectable feat of shavery giving the flexibility and those damned corners.
