guys: when do you shave? (Poll Added)

i used to shave, then get into the shower, cause then i could wash off my face. then i read you should shave after you shower, so your pores are open and stubble is softer. i bought a cheap mirror to hang in my shower to shave while i shower, but then i am in the shower longer and i feel like i'm wasting water standing there (i shut the water off when i shave in the sink).

so i wanna know what everyone else is doing, if there is a better way.

do you shave:
1 - before shower
2 - after shower
3 - during shower
4 - other

It's my understanding that during or after is the better choice, for reasons cited.

I shave whenever it occurs to me, which is usually after I step out of the shower and rarely more frequently than every 2-3 days.

I shave during my shower, but I wash my face first to soften up the skin. I don't use a mirror or even shaving cream, I just do it all by feel. Then after the shower, I'll splash some cold water on my face and use some soothing lotion.

i've heard of this practice and i've seen film footage of the curious people who perform it. it seems terribly ritualized, involving lather and the placement of sharp objects near or on one's throat, which i take to be an indication of a spirit possession of some kind. very strange.

I use an electric shaver because my skin doesn't respond well to the razor's edge. My neck bleeds. A lot. I've tried everything; it's just too sensitive. So, I shave electrically before my shower so the hot water can help deal with whatever damage the electric shaver does.

I'm not a furry guy and thus I have rather tame facial hair. Being a full time college student, I don't have to shave at all... I could go Jesus on society any day.

Because science has proven time and time again that women don't find the Unabomber / Branch Davidian look all that appealing, I typically shave on Fridays, though it is either after one or two weeks. I went a month a few times since being back. It was a pretty hairy situation.

As 4 years of military service taught me: Shaving every day is brutal on the face. I like the feel of a few days worth of stubble. Keeps me in touch with my inner caveman.

I use a plain old Mach 3 and a cheap Remington electric when I do brutalize my mug.

Pretty much the same as me, except I don't bleed but I am in pain from my faces sensitivity.

I almost never actually shave... I just use my beard trimmer with no attachment, so it trims it down to like 3 days worth of stubble... and I usually only do that sunday.

on the rare occasion that I decide to shave and irritate the bejesus out of my face I usually do it immediatly after the shower... if I had a mirror in my shower I would probably do it in there.

I've done it in the shower without a mirror and dont cut myself up, but I always end up getting out and seeing stray hairs I missed...

and lol at the american psycho references...

I shave about 2 or 3 times a week, because I work from home, so hardly anybody sees me and my wife is not particularly fussed if I'm hairy or not.

Oh yeah - the question: Before the shower. I just always have. The really hot water helps stop the bleeding

(Kind of a sad story.)

My parents got a divorce before my Dad got to 'teach' me how to shave. So my mom got me an electric razor. I always saved before the shower... it just felt better.

Now that I know the proper ins and outs of shaving (Thanks to Queer Eye and the guy from the Art of Shaving store) I use a straight razor and I kick ass at it.

I can't stand to watch other people do it, but i can't actually see the sharp objects near my throat when i do it. So that part doesn't bother me.

I've tried a beard. I don't like it myself . You need to groom a beard, too; it's not exactly sprout and forget. Even more importantly, the ladies are generally down on it.

Does anyone else have this happen too?

I was wondering how long it would take for that to come up. But to be serious for a second, I have really sensitive skin and without a lot of work, I get razor burn even if I just shave down to stubble and barely touch the skin.

I usually use a blade, so I shave immediately after showering. Your skin is softer and more pliable, which cuts down on cuts and razor burn. If you use a blade, you should change it after 15-20 shaves. Always shave with the grain. I get a much closer shave with a blade, which is pretty much a universal.

When I use an electric, I always do it before I shower. Your face swells because the hot water opens up your poors and increases blood flow. That pushes the skin up over the follicle and an electric just can't get as close. It is easier to do on a weekend, though.

i also only shave with a blade, i tried electric, it didn't work for me, i will never use electric again. i prefer a blade, but i go with the grain, against the grain, sideways to the grain, all over, just to get as smooth as possible.

I shave before my shower, if I shower in the morning. I usually shower before bed, so that I don't bring the dirt of the day to bed with me. But I shave in the morning.

So that means before I wash my face. If I shave after I wash, the razor grabs at my skin. I get a smoother shave before getting my skin wet.

If I used blades it would be less of an issue, but it's hard to see when the mirrors are all fogged up. Plus the shaving cream for blades smells, even the non foam gel types. I'd rather not smell like shaving cream.

I've heard that for a long time too, and questioned my order of doing things because of it. I have since decided that this was only arranged this way to balance the syllables.

I have since re-worked it to account for real life:

1. Shit
2. Shave
3. Shower

My face hurts just reading that. I can use a disposable twice if it dries out and doesn't rust, and I get maybe two weeks out of a Shick Quattro Titanium (doesn't rust, doesn't dull or pit until about 10 uses.)

I tried an electric once; I'd rather lather up and put my face to a running lawnmower.

I shave before the shower, just so I can rinse off the shaving cream in the shower. I do get a washcloth really warm and let it set on my face to open the pores before I shave. I usually only end up shaving about 3-4 times a week. I'm too lazy to do it every day.
