I agree with GG on this topic. More than once during lecture I had to ask people to "please be quiet" because they were constantly talking. Frequently these were greek members (they usually had greek shirts on and all walked into class together as a group).
Now that I graduated a few years ago, the whole greek/non-greek thing doesn't even exist. During college though, me and my friends usually viewed the greeks as somewhat of a comedic distraction. In the gym the frat boys were always the loudest and taking up the most space. They often called each other "bro." On Thursday nights the sorority girls could be seen staggering between the parties in their revealing outfits. People are definitely free to live theirs lives the way they wish, I'm just glad the greek part of campus was separate from the rest and was easily avoided.

This is why I find this thread Hateful
I only substituted black for sorority girl references, nigger for sorostitute, and Hispanic for fraternity men in the original post and replies.
As many of you are aware, I'm a student at Texas Tech University up in Lubbock, TX. This university in Texas and therefore it has Blacks and Hispanics. The reason for this thread is to discuss the stereotypes of these people. I personally have had different run-ins with each. I have several good Hispanic friends who are Christian and do not yield any of the "asshole" stereotypical traits that would be expected of a Hispanic. I usually give them a lot of crap for being Hispanic, for fun of course. However, when it comes to the black aspect of it, I have met some really rude, self-centered nigger (pronounched NIG-GAH : my friend made the word) sluts whom I think are a waste of space on this earth. This morning in my art appreciation class this black girl behind me kept putting her feet on the back of my chair, nearly touching my head. I asked her to not do that, and to either move em or lose em if you get my drift. I wasn't hostile about it, but firm. So class starts, we turn in our collages and as class is ending this same girl puts her feet up again on the back of another ladies chair right next to me. I look at her and I said "Excuse me, but that's very rude. Put your feet down." Her reply was "GOD, what a stupid little bitch...I'll kick your ass after class" the last part was muttered under her breath. To which I replied "Try it, I dare you. That's a very rude thing to do." After that she didn't say anything. The lady next to me thanked me; she looked to be in her 40s and she's switching careers which is why she's back in school again for another degree. After this experience it really makes me hate these kinds of girls. They look down at you if you don't wear a specific brand of clothing and things of that nature. I realize that not all blacks are like this, however it seems like about 90% are. My personal stereotypes of them are that they are spoiled, rich, and self-centered mostly because they don't know any different. They pay to join a group, and to have friends. I have friends for free. I also hate to see these blacks because often times they are bleached blond, fake baked, fake boobed, and every other horrible thing people can do to themselves to fit into the current trend. I feel sorry for them, too much makeup and such. They drive and wreck expensive cars only to be reimburses with another of the same value later. So people...any of you guys ever have these sorts of run-ins with niggers? Hispanics? Response #1 Wow the immature response comes to mind...edited. Anyway, I did not stereotype all blacks. (if you read my original post) My sister in fact is black. I also had a great roommate who was a member of a black Christian group on campus and she was a great. I have nothing to be jealous of except maybe those wonderful boots they all seem to wear with miniskirts. And yes, when someone treats me with disrespect for no reason I have a right to think she's a bitch especially after the way she acted. She represents that type of crowd, and therefore is a poor reflection. Your wife might be black but she wasn't the one who was rude to me and made me get irritated about the entire genre of people to begin with. And another thing, I do not go out and have random threesomes with people I do not know. I do not sleep around with people I do not know. I'm in a monogamous adult relationship. Blacks are known to party hard, sleep around, and do other promiscuous things. I've heard several blacks in my P.E. classes talk about their crazy weekends and how they hooked up with so and so. I am allowed an opinion. If you have a problem don't read it. Those blacks make it this way by their actions. If they were taught better maybe there wouldn't be such a negative stereotype associated. Show's how well they were brought up, good job to their parents. I would be embarrassed if I had a daughter like that. Response #2 The only reason some blacks and Hispanics have higher GPAs is because they get help (tests, notes and other aids) from other blacks and Hispanics with connections. It's not simply because they're smarter. I know because several blacks at work have told me this. Also if they don't maintain a certain GPA they get kicked out of their group and then they don't have as many friends. I'm glad you think you're so much better than the sorostitutes. You are certainly entitled to you opinion, and free to chose your way to express it. I would suggest that maybe you try to be a little more diplomatic here on the TFP lest you offend people you don't intend to. For an art person, you seem to paint with a pretty wide brush.

You must be black if you've taken such offense to this and called me a racist. You have no idea how many time I have been called a racist at work, therefore your post makes no impression on me. God forbid I have an opinion. I'm going off first-hand experience. And btw one of my favorite roommates was a black girl in a christian sorority. I grew up in Atlanta, you don't affect me. |

I did not call you a racist at any time. I was simply trying to point out that your speech is hateful. You seem to think it's OK because you're not stereotyping along the classic lines of race, sexual orientation, etc., but as you have seen in some of the responses you have offended a group of people here that were involved with the Greek system. And those were just the ones who responded. You must be aware that a large portion of the members here are currently in University, or have been to University and may have been involved with the Greek system in a positive way. I have been a member here since the beginning of TFP 2 (over five years) and I don't think I have ever seen a post quite like this. As I said before, you are ABSOLUTELY entitled to an opinion. I merely suggested you try a more diplomatic approach. It was only a suggestion. Why do you assume I'm black if I take offense to hateful speech?

I have been called a racist by many black people at work, and I have met some jerks that fit the profile on occasion that have varied in race. I have personally met more sorority girls that fit this style than black people so how dare you compare me to a racist. I do realize not EVERYONE fits that category as I said before if you would actually take the time to read. |

I seem to have to have touched a nerve. I apologize if you felt that I called you a racist. I am not even remotely concerned with your experience with being called a racist. Your original post was not about race. It was about stereotype. I can read and comprehend what I read. Please do the same. My commentary was not about you, it was about the way you presented your opinion. I felt the tone was hateful. In the world outside of University it is not OK to justify your stereotype by saying "I know lots of (insert name of group here) that are good people." I humbly ask that out of respect for the diversity of people here on the TFP, please consider what you are saying to everyone that could read it before you post. You could have made your point in a different way. Again I apologize for the misunderstanding, and state very clearly that I am not calling you a racist.

I think the problem is that the poster's experience was in Texas. You would not find those kinds of things happening at Big Ten or Pac 10 university. That kind of bad behavior is unique to SEC and/or Big 12 country.
I realize I might be pushing the TFP protocol against negativity, but I do think that America would be better off if the red states were to split off and form their own country. Of course, the modern Confederate States of America would quickly become a third world hell hole. |

Heck you judged this person who crossed you based on a single moment interaction. What is most important for you to realize is that YOU bring the baggage you are carrying, not someone else. Someone else doesn't hand it to you and then you get pissed off over it. No you are incensed immediately pissed off and why? Because EVERY other interaction you've had pissed you off you brought to bear on this one interaction and now this thread. I find it very interesting that people here are sometimes shocked that when they post something that they expect the reality check to get cashed without issue, only to have it bounce and have heavy fees attached to it. I personally don't like the greek system, for my sister and brother in law, it was an important part of their lives. It gave them structure that they needed. For me, I don't care for it. I make my own structure.
