Whats all this crap about "no freedom of speech"?
Has anyone thrown the guy in jail because he iuses racial slurs? No, the TV network which carries his show has simply dropped it because they do not think it will be popular with viewers or advertisers to be associated with someone who is seen (and not without some cause) as being a racist bigot. Freedom of choice is what the market is supposed to be about no? If someone becomes a liability rather than a money spinner, in the TV game, then they can expect to be thrown to the wolves. |
I'm going to start by throwing out some generalizations that are going to get people pissed off at me.
I have never met a white person who appears genuinely upset about not being able to say "nigger" who does not fall into one of these categories: -Privileged upper middle and upper class white people who feel entitled to everything, have had everything in life handed to them and are upset that there's this one last thing they can't do no matter what. These are usually the people who whine about the persecution of white males in modern society. -People who are being contrarian for its own sake, playing devil's advocate, or trolling -People who are either too sheltered or too dumb to look past the "it's just a word" argument and understand what it really means to black people when a white person says it. -Pseudo-enlightened anti-PC people who think that it's appropriate or helpful to try to "take it back" from the racists. The word is off limits because of centuries of being used as a way to dehumanize a group of people. If you use a word like that, you're either using it to hurt someone or you're being insensitive to the fact that, regardless of its meaning to you, the group it was used against still takes it as a term used to label them as inferior. Is it right that certain people (rappers, comedians) can get away with saying a particular word and you can't? From one angle, maybe; from a practical angle, no. Is it going to change? No. Quote:
