Raw Food
Take a look at the trailer for this new film about raw food.
It's a documentary about six people, who normally eat fast food, who decide to go 100% raw for a month. It features interviews with doctors, experts, and raw foodists including Gabriel Cousens, David Wolfe, and Woody Harrelson. The trailer on Youtube at: Visit the Raw For 30 Days site at: www.rawfor30days.com Who here is raw? |
Looks good, on the whole. It really should say rawVEGANfor30days though. Why not have some raw eggs and meat included?
I do especially agree with the point regarding how in general we as a society are much more inclined to pop pills than eat more broccoli. |
One of the guys associated with this film is David Wolfe, who is a well-known raw food vegan. There are health issues with raw foods when it comes to dairy, eggs, and meat, so they are generally left out. I think a purely raw food diet is too restrictive, but there certainly are benefits to certain raw foods.

Mmmmm sushi........
Vegans can't be right, because sushi = perfection. |
Come on, vegan futomaki ain't bad....

Sushi > vegan anything And on a serious note, vegans have to make sure they are eating things like omega-3 fatty acids (and they can't get long chain omega-3's). Sushi is the best of all worlds, healthy, and tasty. I get the rolls a lot so I get a good dose of veggies as well. |

I do the whole food diet.
I guess I eat raw food, but definitely not all raw. |

I advise against it. |
This would be really tough on the Atkins plan.
|
I'm going to wrap a vegetarian with bacon and cook them up.
... Insane diets... the new black. |
steak Tartar. mmmmm my favourite restaraunt meal. too bad it isn't included.

Ustwo, most (Western) meat eaters don't get nearly as many omega-3 acids as would be beneficial (i.e. EHA, DHA). And most get too many omega-6s. There are a few lucky vegans who can convert ALA to long-chain fatty acids. Though, they are few and far between. And, newtx, don't get me started on the Atkins diet. |
(crams almonds, bananas, and lima beans into tuna steak sushi)
BEHOLD! The perfect raw food! |

Please remind me to stay away from the person who is going to ruin perfectly good bacon with disgusting sushi....ugh makes me wanna barf just thinking about it
|
hmmm.. I have to disagree. I love bacon, and I love sushi... together they sound perfect!
perhaps sashimi instead? |

Impossible I say. |
because I can fathom the depth and perfection of bacon? That should count for something :p

Uhh... so driving a Prius and being a Raw Food a-hole make you a super hippie. ... UsTwo, But raw bacon isn't crunchy and delicious. It also doesn't cover fifteen city blocks in a magical meat odor that reduces the male populace to pacified, drooling babies. This super-hippie-rich-and-bored-wearing-hemp-clothes-where's-my-Prius raw food diet is probably too healthy for controversy despite it missing a huge chunk of human/food systems evolution. Some foods are actually more healthy for you when cooked. Jesus, cooking is something humans developed for a reason. And that reason is pizza! Quote:

2 cups Sushi rice
2 and 1/4 cups water about 1/4 cup rice vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon of kosher salt Plenty of smoked salmon FRIED BACON oh, and nori sheets. |

I only used it because it's something more universal. Frankly, I'd like the salmon raw and I'd like some calamari with it. Calamari + bacon = joy.

Ustwo, I must be one of those few women who enjoys a rare steak. Yum. My first thought when I think of raw food is: Oooh, steak tartare! Beef carpaccio! Tuna carpaccio! How many ways can I make carpaccio? I'm sure I'd find out quickly if I went on a raw food diet. Give me meat. |
except that will is using smoked salmon, a twist to sushi that I had never entertained. smoked Toro is something that I have never heard of...
|
My own solution to the smoked salmon/bacon thing is just to use fried salmon skin.

Vegan = Eating disorder.
Raw food = Lazy. |
Hahaha...
This thread feels like a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire. Grunting and drinking shitty beer. |
Break out the beer-can chicken. So much for raw food.
But, seriously, if we as North Americans knew more about food and nutrition, or if we actually cared, the average diet would include more of the typical raw food things you see. Salads, sprouts, seeds, nuts, raw veggies. Most people stop at a side of french fries and a leaf of iceburg lettuce for the burger. |
(salutes the TFP)
A fortress for the nutritionally knowledgeable. I eat a lot of raw stuff, myself. I just don't see the "give up other stuff" point. Why? Why can't I eat it all? I don't discriminate on food. I'm eating it all! You see me eating it all? Oh-YEAH! ... Oh, and one more point: Vagina: The original raw food. |
Yeah, I like it too. But I usually add meat to it.

The Chinese are eating species to extinction thinking they will cure diseases and make their penises hard. The Japanese have lower heart disease and higher rates of stomach cancer and can't survive without whale meat. The Germans eat a lot of things with their sausage. The scotts think a mars bar is best deep fried. The English not only eat shitty tasting food, they eat shitty tasting fatty food. The French think that stuffing a live goose until it almost explodes and eating its liver is the highest of cuisine. The Ethiopians, well I don't know what they think but man their food is awful. The Mexicans..... mmmm well I don't have a lot of bad things to say about mexican food, but it does get a tad monotonous. But anyways bad dietary habits seem to be a universal. Americans are fat bastards, but right now Europe is blimping up too, and I expect the trend to spread to nations as wealth expands. |
Wow, and I thought I was speaking generally. Thanks for your...uh :uhh: ... analysis?
It was funny though. You would have taken the cake if you mentioned that Kiwis eat their hamburgers topped with a fried egg and a slice of beet. |
Yeah, I was gonna make a crack about how Ethiopians are on a raw food diet... any bug that flies into their mouth is fair game.
... Nuts/berries and fruits/vegetables are easy raw food combos. Healthy people chomp them all the time. |
Quote:
And while a beet sounds disgusting I have had fried eggs on a burger, and I'm ashamed to say it was quite nice. |
I'm going to COOK make some bacon, right now.

How about the har-har joke about using an entire roll of toilet paper a couple of hours after eating your meal? ... This thread makes me think of college chicks eating rice cakes and using the Stairmaster. |
