Call before you dig
Does it cost a homeowner any money to have any one of these underground utility marker companies come out to mark up your yard? Or does that cost get passed on to the utility company (who will pass it back to you on your monthly bill)?

I *think* that it's free, but to be sure, give APS or Southwest Gas a call. I'm sure that they can provide you with that info. I imagine that they'd rather provide the service than risk someone blowing up the neighborhood.

It depends on the utility company. Every utility company I have delt with offers the service free. Like said before, they would rather mark things off first than deal with repairing a broken line, pipe, or blown up building.
Give your utility company a call, ask what all they mark, ask if they'll mark off all lines, or if you need to call the cable company as well. Good luck.

here there's a hotline you can call: 1800 dig-tess. and its free. I HIGHLY reccomend getting your property marked if you're using power digging tools. there's nothing quite like the exhilaration that you get when you cut through a high pressure natural gas line with a ditch witch. lucky that nothing ignited it...
its a lesson I'll probably never forget. |
