Cat Has Laryngitis - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

Five days ago, our cat stopped meowing and instead lets out a squeak. Cute and hilarious at the same time. Now it's almost been a week and he's still squeaking when he should be meowing. Curiosity hit and I have checked what Google has to say - I found plenty of information; unfortunately, there was also a lot of confliction depending on what site I visited. Answers varied from thyroid tumor, stressful situation (highly doubt that one), lymph nodes, blockage, etc.
Also mentioned that after a week or two he should regain the meow.

Has anyone experienced a squeaky cat before ... or have any professional insight into what has happened to poor Ty?
We'll be bringing him into the Vet if things are not straightened out by the end of this weekend.

Ty is adorable. What a sweet, sweet kitty. Recently, we acquired a stray after she had suffered a neck injury. We had her treated, but for about a month after that all she could get out was a squeak. In your situation, you can see no obvious reason for the meow lapse. I would have her checked out, for my peace of mind. If only the kitties could tell us what is wrong.

isaac started squeaking and sounding a bit raspy for awhile and they found out that he simply had a sore throat. a week of antibiotics (fun to shove a medicine dropper full of liquid down the throat of a cat who will take your arm off and who's throat is already killing him...) twice a day and he was talking like crazy again.

One of my cats went through this. Had to be on antibiotics for a week or so. As long as kitty is still eating/drinking/using litterbox ok I wouldn't worry so much unless like you say it goes over a weeks time. Then see the vet.

Forgot to mention this, but besides the missing meow, Ty seems to be 100% himself.

I've never had a cat go squeeky, but I have had them start out that way and never change. Right now I have two, brothers from the same litter. Kuma can barely force out an audible squak (at 7.5 kilos it's kinda funny), while Tabi sounds like like someone kicking a banjo.
