Not unlike a lil kid. (Continuing Ed. v. Another degree)
Lemme lay this out:
I want out of Retail after 18 years. I have a BS in Communications garnered before the retail treadmill (The bills needed to get paid, and I have had a stunning lack of confidence in myself.) I have id'ed two or three possible paths out of the cash register culture to a new path of employ more suited to my talents and temperament. -computer service tech (help desk/IT support) -perhaps something to do with photography/graphics a third (which somewhat ties to the original degree) -voice over work and the reality that this is going to be a lil while before I cut the cords of retail completely (unless i say i have had enough and quit, a possibility) now the ?'s: At this point on my journey, start small with community ed (no degree requirement) for this semester? Or go (at my own pace) transfer credits from the BS and head for another degree a class or two a semester. I am planning at picking this up thru the local community college (tho in some cases a technical school is a possibility), and even in some cases the local school system does offer some continuing ed classes. Any suggestions?

No suggestions yet, but a question to ask yourself. Why are you leaving retail?
*do you want to do something creative? *do you want to do something with computers? *are you tired of dealing with so many people? *do you desire a bigger paycheck? *do you want to do something that requires more brain power (not as boring)? Your answers might help you get a better idea of which way you want to go before you start school. If you're tired of dealing with alot of people (or grumpy people), think twice before you persue the help desk idea. Not to say rule it out, but just think about it. Photography/graphics sound more creative than the others, if you are seeking an outlet. I'm not sure what voice over work is, but you can apply your answers to this option, as well. Wish you well.

I realize now that customer service is where I've been most happiest. I love being the "hero", the person who comes to the rescue and is able to do things that were deemed impossible by everyone else.
Helpdesk level 2 or 3 suits me best. Helpdesk level 1 answering phones, I didn't mind it, but I didn't get the same level of satisfaction as having the bailout button to escalate something I diidn't feel like or didn't want to do to level 2 or 3. only realized that this year. YMMV
