Again in Need of Creative Minds
I'm getting married soon (Sunday) and I told my fiancee about my last thread and she wants to see if you guys can help out on this. Many weddings have the mothers lighting a unity candle to show the families coming together. She doesn't like that, but she wants to do something similar. What else have you guys seen or thought of that we can do to represent family unification?

Have the whole family stand up, and give away the bride.....then do the same for the groom. This way everyone is involved in the ceremony, and at the same time show they support the union in a tangible way.

Echoing off of Tecoyah's answer, in my wedding, both of my parents walked me to the altar, then both of my wife's parents did the same for her.
We also did a variation on the unity candle; we did not blow out the other candles. The connection to the past and to family is just as important as our connection to each other, so all 7 candles remained lit (both my parents, both her parents, candles for us individually, and one joint candle. There were two candelabra each with 3 candles, and one pillar candle). Good luck, and have fun on Sunday! |
Another variation to the altar walking. Have each family member at an equal distance along the path you walk. Like a relay each family member hands off the bride/groom to the next family member. Possibly have a candle you actually hand off each time.

I think Tecoyah's idea is pretty good, if something of that nature is really what people want. Or better yet, have the family of the bride and the groom sit among one another in church, as opposed to having one family sit on one side and the other sit on the other side. Assuming y'all are getting married in a church of course. Do they still do church weddings these days? |
I know the date of your wedding has passed by now and I hope it went well! I just wanted to share my idea that I will do for my wedding day when it comes.
I want to get married on a beach first of all. I would give everyone a stone. Instead of lighting the unity candle, I could gather the crowd to the shore of the beach. Everyone makes a wish for the bride and groom and throws the stone in to the water. I think that's pretty nice! |
