In Need of a Creative Mind

I think this should be the right part of the Tilted Forum to put this question. We've all been to a bank, doctor's office, etc. and seen those pens that are decorated to look like flowers. They're more visually appealing than a plain mug of bics and it prevents people from walking off with so many. What I want to know is does anybody know of a more masculine version of the same? What would a guy have on his desk that's equivalent to the pen flowers?

I've seen a lot of cool carved wooden pens at arts festivals and such. Some of them had carved animal heads and others were carved in a way to show off the wood.

Small football/baseball/etc design on the pen caps?

Or maybe a pen on one side, and the other side is a stamp? I am thinking of the stamp like Chinese and Japanese paintings for signature. The stamp side is usually made of jade or other stone.

I want something that can't be easily removed. I guess I'll go to the dollar store and see if they have any toys that are really small and can be duct taped to the pen.

Don't they still make those naked lady pens? You know, the ones whose clothes fall/drain off when you turn them upside down?

Nothing says masculine like having a naked lady on your desk.

How about an outing to your local museum gift shop?

They have tons of gimicky show-off items like what you are describing.

how about you just coat the outside of the pens in acid, or some other caustic burning substance, then when someone tries to take them, thier fingers burn and after a week, no one will touch your pens, and then you can put regular pens in the pen holder.....

Exactly. Also, I believe that most people don't intentionally steal the pens - it is just an automatic "I'm done with the pen, time to put it away" reaction. A huge flower on the top of the pen makes it difficult to accidentally slip into a pocket or bag. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas.

Duct tape these to your pens.

I like the feather idea. A lot, actually.

The problem with getting something to stick to a pen is making sure that your object (let's call it a Topper, shall we) has something long and pointy that can be affixed alonside the pen with tape. You won't be able to make a topper by merely gluing something to the "eraser end" of a pen. You know what I mean. It has to be a part of the entire pen or at least extend down the majority of it.

And you can tape pretty much anything to a pen using that green floral tape (which is basically the same stuff they use to make the flower pens). You can get that stuff at a craft store or possibly even a grocery store in the hardware section. (You know, the place where they keep motor oil and lightbulbs and tiny plastic hooks to "hold" your coffee cups).

Other than feathers or flowers, though, I can't think of anything else that comes with a stem-like appendage. Maybe some... greenery? Like a fern frond? You could do that to all your pens and make your pen-cup look like a tiny tree.

Floral tape:

MS Paint "diagram" of proper technique:

First, get your supplies:

Next, with the feather quill/flower stem against the pen, wrap the tape around in overlapping circles until entire pen is covered with tape.

Note that my pen looks lumpy. This is not ONLY due to user error in MSPaint (even though most of it is...) it is also because your pen will probably look lumpy, and there's not much you can do about it.

I made pens for my wedding like this and none of them were as pretty as the ones in the store. :2cents:

Are you trying to deter males or females from stealing your pens? Coworkers or clients? If you are trying to deter males, then a bunch of the big flowery ones would probably be just the thing to have, even if you are male. Dollar Store has huge pens about 8 inches long and almost an inch thick. I also like the duct-taped pen idea, but use a bright color so it is easier to see when someone takes off with it.
