Budget woes
Ok, so heres the deal.
Last August, signed a contract with the ambulance company I work for to bump me to supervisor and switch me to salary. Salary was $2304 every 2 wks with a max of 96 hrs per week. Several months go by, life is great, wifey is happy, etc..... Then there was company wide cut backs. No pink slips for anyone, just cut backs on hrs. And lo and behold, the owner decided to use the "contract void at decision of either party". So now I've gone from $2000 a pay period to avg of $800 a pay period. Having tryed to wait it out, I've already burned through the emergency savings. Monthly bills come out to about $2400. Already started getting rid of "wants". Motorcycle was the 1st to go. Next on the chopping block is the Jetski. Can't quit, pay is still better here than any where else. (atleast ems wise. already passed the border patrol test. if background check goes good, going to training in Sept.) Heres the question: Someone told me something about that you can get financial asst. even for pay cuts, kinda along the lines of un-employment. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Thanks in advance. |
Check your state unemployment office/phone line. Some states have some sort of compensation for this, and it is worth the time to figure out what your state does.

I've never heard of any kind of "wage gap" insurance, especially when it comes to overtime wages.
|
no overtime, it was salary. If I worked 30 hrs, it paid the same as if I had work 80 hrs. In other words, I wasn't be the hour.
|
so then it wasn't hour cuts, but more pay cuts...
|
96 hours in a week? Seriously? Or was that every two weeks and I just misunderstood? Anyway, sounds like you still have a job with decent if not great pay, albeit less than you were making. Thought about a PT job doing something else?
|
Well, if there's a "contract void at decision of either party" clause, I think finding a different job would be in order. I don't know what to say in the mean time.
If you're involved with a religious group, that's generally a good place to look. You might contact charitable organizations, too. |
