Hair loss - Nioxin/Rogain combo
My hair has been thinning for about two years now. I recently got a hair cut and it is apparent that my hair is thinning at the back/crown of my head. I did a bit of research and bought a generic rogaine supply. I wanted to know if anyone used Nioxin or heard about it. I plan on buying the Nioxin Cleanser System 2 (I am not buying the kit, just the cleanser) and using it with rogaine this summer. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks.

SofaKing,
I will let you know in a year. I have been doing the same thing for the past 6 weeks. I am using Nioxin shampoo and cleanser in the shower, then applying follicle booster ( which my hair stylist/cutter recommends) in the morning. Following it with generic rogain from costco in the evening. I am not optomistic, but it is worth a try. |

Finasteride (Propecia) is believed to be more effective at dealing with hairloss on the crown of the head than is Rogaine. Technically Propecia requires a prescription, but it is possible to order Proscar (same thing as Propecia, but in a larger dose that was originally used to treat prostrate disease) online, and it's much cheaper than buying Propecia from a pharmacy as well. You can then break up the 5mg pills they send you into (approximate) 1mg tablets with a pill cutter.

I am also losing my hair, slowly (i hope), but it's a receding hairline thing. Do any of these treatments help? I have also been looking at this Follicle Nutrient Serum by Osmotics, but I don't really know. Have any of you guys looked into this at all?

I don't know how widespread this product's availability is, but there is a non-sulfate shampoo and a non-sulfate conditioner called Enjoy. It's rather expensive at about 60$ for the combination, but mine lasted from July to March. It is an awesome product, intended to stimulate the scalp.

Nioxin shampoo
I think it's really a good product. A couple of years ago, my hair suddenly began thinning. I began using the Nioxin, and it was only a matter of time before my hair began coming back in more thick. I was able to grow my hair longer and it looked beautiful. It's safe and you can use it on processed hair, too.

I think Nioxin is a very good hair promotion product that works quite well. It helped me - and a few close friends I know, both ladies and gentlemen. Also taking fish oil caplets or the oil itself (its usually lemon flavored) helps a lot too. As mentioned, using a natural shampoo that has no lurel sulfates helps keep hair healthier & thicker IMO and as I've read online by many other folks.
Good luck. Isn't genetics fun lol. Be glad you have your health, at least. And as they say, worrying about hair loss generally makes you have hair loss. On the up side, many men look mighty sexy with shaved heads.
