Honeymoon Suggestions
Hey Everybody, I'm in the beginning stages of planning a honeymoon vacation for after me and my fiancee's wedding. I wanted to know the opinions of the board to see about any good places. Right now we are thinking about somewhere like St. Lucia or something like that. But really something all inclusive so we don't have to carry money. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Well, there are tons of options. It sounds like you want to head to the Caribbean, but knowing that for sure as well as when you're planning on going would be most helpful in narrowing down things. Also, do you have a budget in mind?
Here's my list of Caribbean/Atlantic destinations that I've either been to or heard excellent things about. I will warn you that I like to sit on the beach and do nothing, so your expericences may vary. All of these are all-inclusive. Peter Island - in the British Virgin Islands. I think that some of the folks that started Amway own it, but it's the entire island. There are only 100 or so rooms, and the suites are great. There's a bartender there that makes a killer mojoto. http://www.peterisland.com/ Little Palm Key - I've posted about this one before, and honestly it's my favorite hotel in the entire country. There are only 30 or so rooms, and all of them are cabanas. Again, the resort is the entire island, but it's only 5 acres or so. There's a 5 star restaurant on the island, and if you told me you were staying in Key West and looking for a place to eat, I'd send you the 30 miles up the highway to have dinner; it's that good. It's also very expensive but worth every cent. http://www.littlepalmisland.com/ Atlantis, Bahamas - I was there for a work function a couple of years ago, and my wife really enjoyed it. I, unfortunately, was in meetings most of the time, so I didn't get the full effect. It was much busier than many other places we've stayed. Charter a boat - this is our next vacation, once our kids are old enough to fend for themselves with grandma for a week. We talked about doing it for our honeymoon but decided against it because my wife was a little nervous. In retrospect, we wish we had done it. Typically you rent a boat complete with a captain and a cook, and they shuttle you around the islands. We met several people doing this while on our own honeymoon, and honestly they seemed like they were having a great time. There are a bunch of places that do this out of the BVI's and will generally take you whereever you want to go within reason.

I can recommend the French West Indies. Either Guadeloupe or Martinique.
Both are refined and elegant French colonies with a lot to offer. The food is fantastic and the whole atmosphere is very romantic. Its a lot less frenzied than the other islands as the tourists are largely French and tend to keep to themselves. It depends on whether you want a quiet romantic Honeymoon or you need to have 'entertainment' provided. It is very safe and there is lots to do and see, and the French government spend lavishly on the infrastructure as a great many civil servants retire there..! If you don't want to carry any money and you want your meals etc to be included, there is a Club Med hotel on both islands, both of which are excellent. Its like a trip to France but with sunshine, I have always found the local people friendly and less inclined to harass the tourists with the 'hard sell' so often found elsewhere in the Carribbean. Well, good luck with your honeymoon wherever you choose to go... |

Thanks for the suggestions so far, they have been awesome ideas. To answer some of Jazz's questions: Me and my Lady don't really mind where we go as long as we can sit on the beach for hours on end (mostly so she can get a tan and i can be as red as a cherry), our budget is something like 4K to 7K for both of us. We are honestly up for any spot on the planet as long as it has some beach and it is relatively quiet and we don't need mosquito nets to sleep (big one for her) Thanks so far everybody

Biras Creek
AHHH to honeymoon again!! My husband and I spent our honeymoon down in the Caribbean at a fabulous place which is relatively unknown. It's on the island of Virgin Gorda and called Biras Creek. It's easy to get to from San Juan and a beautiful spot. Highly recommend checking it out. We spent probably $6500 which included room, airfare, taxes, alcohol, and tip. It's only accessibly by boat so outsiders can't get in and only has 33 suites. Makes for a true get-a-way and you almost feel as if you have the island to yourselves. We went in January of '06 and had great weather. We got an ocean suite room but would not recommed this as many of them only have a limited view of ocean. Garden Suites are just as nice and just behind the ocean suites. Beach is beautiful and they offer umbrellas or you can catch some shade in the nearby palm trees. You can use the sunfish, kayaks, windsurfers for free and also use one of the 6 Boston Whalers on property to explore local islands or go snorkeling. All meals are included in price of room and they are like eating at a 5 star restaurant all day long. Beach BBQ is awesome and I had no problem putting back on the weight I had lost for the wedding!! We thought it would be burgers and misc. for lunch but it was filet mignon, fresh fish grilled, lobster, fresh salads, etc. Dinner changes nightly and was always amazing. Trying to get my husband to take me back for our "babymoon" but not sure if we can make it in time

Bali.
It might not sound that exotic and all, but the locations, scenery, and services you get there make up for the lack of 'urbanization'. The locals are friendly, the place is BEAUTIFUL, and it's cheap too. www.bali.com
