Delta Airlines Reservations

If you want to make a domestic reservation, or use your skymiles on Delta, you will be put on hold for ever when going thru their voice prompt system.

But... if you state that you want an international flight, leaving within 4 days and returning 2 days later, you will be connected to an agent within 1 minute.

Once you are connected, just tell them that you need to make a domestic flight reservation or use your sky miles and they will take care of it for you.

And if really want to make their day, tell them that the only reason you said international was because it is the only way to be connected without having to wait forever. They will usually laugh and say your creative.

sky_driver: Perhaps we can expand this thread to include reservation and general travel tips in general...

For instance, when calling United's general number, it's best to try to go directly to an agent right off the bat. It cuts down on the wait time if they don't know what you want.

These may be amateur, but I wish someone had told me so....

If there's not another flight till morning after yours is cancelled, do NOT book to another location. They WILL lose your bag. Worst few days of my life happened because of this mistake. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to bring myself to fly United again. lol. Of course my bank account might say otherwise. That was the first time I flew by myself by the way.

The window seat isn't all it's cracked up to be when your seat partner is talkative.

I also like to look up maps of the airport before I fly in, so I kinda know where I'm going.

That's where a music playing device with headphones comes in really handy.

For one of my own. If you call US Airways to book an international flight you will be transferred to a call center in India. Every time I called their international reservations, I heard a pause, then the international ring tone followed by someone answering in an Indian accent. Ironically, US Airways doesn't have any flights to India.

Don't book yourself in the row infront of the exit row. Your seat won't recline.

Since I fly United, and they still have seatback phones on most flights, I deal with chatty neighbors by excusing myself to make an important call and cancel the purchase midway through. I then have an entirely made-up conversation with one of my assistants. Poor Sue has been fired more times than she realizes...

By the way that trick doesn't work on American since they took the phones out a few years ago.

When departing before 6 am or after about 9:30 (for my sleep schedule) always book a window seat. It's easier to sleep in. Any other time, go with an aisle since it allows you get off the plane faster.

Unless you're a cowboy, your belt on its own won't set off the metal detector. I always go through wearing both my watch and belt and only have to take off one in smaller airports. I usually throw my phone, money clip, etc. in my jacket pockets (if I'm wearing one) or in my briefcase while I'm standing in line.

On American Airlines 777s, your remote for the TV screen can come out of the arm rest, the reverse side of the remote is a phone.
