What do your pets do to get attention?

I was wondering if anyone had any interesting stories about the silly things their pets do to get attention.

In the morning my cat will follow me into the bathroom and hop up on the counter as I am about to get in the shower. I will usually pet him because he is so happy to see me. When I turn around to get into the shower finally, he will jump down on to the floor and bite my ankles. I assume he does this because he doesn't want me to stop petting him. What do you think?

My cat Pearl does something similar, wherever I am. She'll wrap herself around my foot dig in her claws and bite my foot! That shit really hurts!! Never try to pet her belly either! Big mistake! Once again she'll dig her claws into my hand and bite me, it's just a love bite, but still....damn!!

Morgana loves to play...unfortunately she loves to play about 2 am. One of her fav toys is the plastic ring that you get off a jug of milk (you know...the bottom part of the cap that breaks away when you first open it)

She keeps hers in different areas of the house, and loves to play fetch with them....but at 2 am her fav thing to do when she wants to play is to come and drop them on your face....she is VERY good at getting it to land on your nose.

When she wants attention while we are awake, she will come and lay down on the laptop keyboard

My cats literally knock on my bedroom door if it's shut. We're not talking a light tapping - they've figured out how to make it sound as if a big burly man is actually outside the door banging on it. Also, Sophie has this toy - a string attached to a stick - she likes to bring it to me in the middle of the night while making the worst noise known to man. I've never heard another cat make a noise that sounds anything like this - it's almost like she's bringing me "her kill". Silly cats. :)

My two cats have lots of attention-demanding ways. Sabrina simply climbs up and headbutts you until you smooch her - lying on your lap, your chest, your laptop, whatever's there. When we first get home, she runs into the living room and stretches wwaaaaayyy out waiting for her belly rub.

Punkin just follows you around mewing until you pick him up. And if you try to sit down while holding him, he'll jump down and then start mewing again. *sigh*

And they both like to sit on your lap while you pee. ^^ Like she said... silly cats!

A friend of mine has a cat who has a rather interesting way of getting her attention - he jumps up onto a table or a desk and starts to push things off it onto the floor! What a little brat!

Picabo isn't exactly subtle. If she wants to go for a walk, she grabs a leash off the wall and tosses it in my lap. If she wants food or water, she barks at me and stands over her empty bowl and if she wants attention at 2am, she comes up and sniffs my armpits with her cold, wet nose.

Sorcha 02-23-2007 10:09 AM

My lab lays her head in your lap. It's the cutest thing ever. If you ignore her after she does this she kinda nudges you...but it's really hard to ignore. :p

We have one cat that will follow me around and just meow, and meow, and meow. I keep threatening to turn her into a slipper, via the trusted method of shoving my foot up its arse.

It was cute 7 years ago. Not so much now. Back when she was a kitten, she would claw her way up ones leg, which sucked when one wasn't wearing pants. She also like to use my toolbox as a litter.

jorgelito 02-23-2007 12:06 PM

My lil' SweetPea is a "spooner". That is, she will come up to you and lay down and try to assume the little spoon position. It is priceless.

She also does the head in the lap thing. She also "talks". It's more like incomprehensible mumbling.

On another note, why does it seems like the cats are violent here and the dogs so sweet?

FuriousAvatar 02-23-2007 04:05 PM

I love my cat dearly-but when he wants attention, you sure as hell better give it to him. He has a godawful meow that makes your ears bleed. And he likes to climb things when he's bored (still meowing away) until you find him and give him his attention. He also likes to claw on the doorframe of my bedroom door if it's closed, which is his way of saying "Let me in!", I suppose.

Meditrina 02-23-2007 04:12 PM

To get my attention while I am sleeping, my cat chews on any electrical cord he can reach. This usually happens very early in the morning as a reminder to get up and feed him.

This morning was different. This morning he chose to pull the papers off of my son's door and start eating them. Shortly after this, he threw up. Silly cat.

Elphaba 02-23-2007 04:21 PM

When Sadie the pup is ready to start her day, she makes certain that we're up as well. Licking faces, major squeeky toy annoyance, and driving Rottie mad are pretty effective. :)

SexyCat 02-23-2007 08:47 PM

I have two kitties. One likes to scratch and the door and make noise early in the morning. The other one lets me know when he wants attention by following me around and if I am sitting down he hops in my lap and nuzzles my face with his nose or licks my hands until you pet him.

They are both a little crazy, but I don't think I've ever seen a cat that wasn't

CaliLivChick 02-24-2007 07:49 AM

This guy I'm dating has a 25 pound cat that likes to play fetch (Shani, I thought his cat was the only one!)... the cat has pipe cleaners that he'll go get like a stick, bring to you (usually dropped about three feet from you), and meow until you throw them again. If he's really serious about playing, he'll actually drop them on your foot. So crazy, and funny as heck! :D

Acetylene 02-28-2007 09:13 AM

My dog pretends she needs to go out and pee. If that doesn't work, she goes and eats one of my plants.

Atropos4 03-06-2007 05:00 PM

When Raven, one of my cats wants attention she will do anything to get it. She will paw at my arm and tickle it when I'm in my computer chair. Instead of just jumping up, which she can easily do.

Also after a shower she will wait patiently on the counter, floor, toilet seat..etc.. She will immediately starting talking...if I talk to her she will keep meowing as if she is answering. If I continue about my business...brushing my hair and whatnot she will paw me from whereever she is seated until I stop what I'm doing to pet her. She has even attacked my wet hair as I comb it out in order to get attention.

hagatha 03-07-2007 12:35 PM

My kitten, Chicken, has taken to getting up on a chair then hitting my ass with her paw until I turn around. It is nearly impossible to maintain a bad mood with this critter around.

Eweser 03-07-2007 07:39 PM

My dog Molly always seems to want attention at bedtime. She jumps up on the bed (she's a very small dog) and sticks her nose under my or my husband's hand. Or she'll sit down on her butt and beg (she can sit that way forever!). If we ignore her, eventually she will lay down pressed up against one or the other of us.

CountryFamily 04-08-2007 05:08 PM

My dog usually just whines for attention :) If we are asleep and don't hear her, we usually wake up with a wet nose in our face :) Nose to Nose.

tenniels 05-08-2007 09:22 PM

One of my dogs, Carter, will come and stretch out in front of me and scratch at me with his paws to get me to give him a belly rub. Or he'll come right in front of me and start trying to scratch at a specific spot and look and me until I get the hint and take over. Sometimes if I'm paying too much attention to Carter, Lily comes over and gets right in between me and him so I have to start petting her too, they're so cute. My other dog Spencer will come and sit pretty by the table (not on his legs, but on his bum with his hands together all cute) and wait for a bit of table food. God I love my dogs. Spencer is dying of cancer though and it's really really hard. He's doing well now, but has gone blind and had his spleen removed. He was drinking out of the fountain in my mum's living room the other day, very cute.

ItWasMe 05-08-2007 09:28 PM

He barks she barks.

Kadath 05-09-2007 04:10 AM

One of my cats went through a phase where I guess she got lonely at night, and she would meow piteously and apparently bring toys into the bedroom (we found them in the morning). I guess she got over it, but it was strange (it started when she was about 6 or 7 and lasted for several months).

My other cat knows to paw at the door, and certain doors that don't latch she will open by going up on her hind legs and falling against them to push them open.

nikita 05-22-2007 08:27 PM

My dog will come to me and scratch at me with paws or he will jump on me and start barking.

dogzilla 05-23-2007 01:51 AM

Sometimes if I walk past my cat in the morning and ignore him, he will nip my ankle. Sometimes when he wants to play chase he will meow loudly so I will look for him, When I find him, he takes off and the chase is on.

amonkie 05-23-2007 02:28 AM

My puppy wlll migrate through the night, and I usually wake up to him laying on the second pillow on top of my hair/head, so as soon as I start to move around to mess with the snooze he knows, and starts to lick/chew my hair/ears/face till I get up.

Other times.. he'll bring a ball and drop it in my lap. If i don't throw it, he finds another toy and adds that to the pile, he gets the desired response.

maleficent 05-23-2007 03:56 AM

ginger will stand on my head if i'm in bed...

or she will sit next to me and hit me with her clawless paw until I give her some attention - or food whichever she prefers.. it's usually food )

snowy 05-23-2007 09:00 AM

My dog will come put his head on your knee or the nearest flat surface to where you are to get your attention. Also, if you have your hand out, he will position his head underneath it and nudge you so that you'll pet him.

The cat I had most of my childhood had a habit of walking on paper to get your attention. She would do this to wake me up in the middle of the night so that I would get up and let her out of my room. Later in her life, she picked up the other cat's habit of meowing loudly for attention. And like atropos's cat, she would talk to me. You could literally have whole conversations with this cat, and she would reply.

The people I work for have a dog who regards me as part of his pack, because I see him every day for several hours, and am also his dogsitter. To get my attention, Bert will usually plop himself down in front of me, tilt his head, and give me the saddest puppy eyed look I have ever seen. Then he gets this look in his eyes like, "Well, aren't you going to pet me?" So adorable.

longbough 07-07-2007 11:33 AM

My dog will roll on his back and wiggle around. Then he'd freeze as if playing dead with his head in my direction watching me upside-down tucking in his paws except for his left paw which is outstretched towards me. He'll stay still like that for over one solid minute until I say something.
