ADD/ADHD Strattera

Hey guys, I posted a few weeks ago about being screened for ADHD. I tested positive for ADD and the doc prescribed Strattera. He told me to take it for about a month. I am just about two weeks into it. I have been taking 40 mg, now im taking 60mg pills. When I get back from Winter break, he's going to up it to 80mg assuming I tell him its doing me some good.
This is where I bring you guys in... I don't think its doing me any good. I feel tired and slightly sick in my stomach. Has anyone had any experience with Strattera? Have you had the same symptoms? What will he prescribe next Ritalin or Adderall? I think im going to stop taking it and just tell him it was making me sick when I see him. Anyway, thanks!

If its not helping any and its making you feel sick and tired... just stop taking it. if you look it up online those are 2 of the side effects that are common with it. ADD isnt exactly something ugent enough to keep taking that stuff if its making you feel sick. Whatever the doctor wants you to try next make sure you ask them about the side effects before you start taking it just so you know what to expect.

I dont have ADD so i really dont have any first hand experiance with any of those medications but i have been perscribed a bunch of other crap that wasnt worth taking because of the side effects. Most of the time its not worth putting up with the side effects if you get any at all.

Your doc is ramping up your medication because you the side effects usually come in after you start seeing benefits... Since strattera is not working for you the next time you go see the doc he'll probably switch you up to something else (if you want to continue drug therapy)

I've had ADD my whole life and tried the drug route, but found cognitive therapy more effective in terms of treatment and because the side effects were fairly severe for me (depression, acne, DRY MOUTH wow). Explore your options and educate yourself on your condition so you have some knowledge under your belt next time you see the doc.

I have had ADD my entire life, however in 1st grade I was prescribed ritalin to calm me down. This is one of the most vivid memories of my life btw at that age, I told my parents I didn't need it and would flush the pills down the toilet everyday in school when I was supposed to be taking it. By taking the stand at that age I learned to control my mind and not allow it to affect me so much. I knew I didn't want to be on medication for something I didn't understand at the time. To this day it still affects me in class at times when I'm bored from the lecture, I get a tad ansy. When I'm irritated it shows through also. And at random times but all and all I believe I made the right decision to choose no drugs. If its really affecting me that badly then maybe but I believe I can control myself. The decision is yours, I don't know how severe your case is or isn't. Do you feel the need to be on drugs to control it? Or do they help you?

BINGO!! Skier, you are a smart cookie. All my experience with ADHD has taught me that drugs should always be a last resort after seeing a good cognitive therapist for some time. While ADHD is connected to genetics and neurology, it can often be treated, without side effects, by simply seeing a therapist. As silly as it sounds, it's possible that ADHD or a condition with similar traits can be caused or effected by poor diet of all things. Diet restrictions can help at least 5% of those effected by ADHD (mostly in cases of food allergies, but also in other cases). If you avoid refined sugar and food aditives, you'll be better off anyway, so it can't hurt. Best of luck!

I have ADD and at first was prescribed Straterra. I was on it for about 1 month when I stopped b/c of the side effects. My doctor then tried Adderall (my father/sister were on it as well) and it worked. The only side effect was a decreased appetite, although I see that as a benefit (amphetamines are often used as a diet aid).
