Meet me at our spot
So, JJ and I just got finished Wicker Park. I won't go too much into the movie, but the spot that the couple called 'their spot' which is Wicker Park in Chicago played a large role in the film. And that's not a spoiler. ;)
After the movie, JJ asked me where I would go if he said to meet me in our spot. When I answered him, we realized that we have had 'spots' in every city we've lived in together. It's not like it was specifically chosen for that purpose. They are just places that we go to a lot...our safe havens in the places we live I suppose. They are places where we would hang out and talk after movies or on nice days talk over coffee or just sit and relax reading. When we visit my parents, we still go to our 'spot' and hang out for a bit with some coffee. We do the same thing when we stop in Columbus. In Chicago, it is the Water Tower which is right down the street from us. I suppose it is the first spot we bonded with when we moved here. It is almost 'marked' by our growth like you mark a doorway when a child is growing. It is my favorite spot in the city. In Columbus, it is in front of our favorite bookstore. There was a coffee shop right next door and we spent many happy times there. In Parkersburg, it is a park on a hill. We love that place so much we named our cat after it. Anyway, I was wondering if every couple has a spot. If your SO said, "Meet me at our spot", would you know where to go? |
I don't know that my wife and I have a "spot".
I've had places that were a regular meeting place for other friends (like the pub Irene's in Ottawa or The Tap in Toronto) but I don't have anywhere like that for her. I don't think we go out enough together. Never have. |
I've had a long term relationship with my buttocks, so any state, any city I go too..my buttocks and I know to meet at the toilet.
kidding aside, You need to be in a long term relationship to have a spot. I have a feeling if I keep up with my life, the only spot I will end up being at soon is child court. Sigh. |
Odd thing...
The girlfriend before my last one once said to me something like "we should have a place we go... you know, if i say 'hey meet me at our place'..." This was after work one night and we'd arrived at my apartment after I talked to her and said we'd meet there. I then responded, "what, like a place we go where we're happy and content... and comfortable?" She says, "yeah. So... if i was talking to you and i said hey, meet me at our place... what would be it?" And I thought for a quick moment, looked her right in the eyes and smiled, and leaned down and buried my face between her exposed boobs. She laughed a bit, then continued to watch TV and run her fingers through my hair, and I stayed buried for several minutes. True story. From then on, if I ever referred to "my happy place"... like if something crappy is going on and you just want to disappear and go to your "happy place", she would laugh almost uncontrollably to my delight, and the confusion of anyone who had heard my relatively innocuous comment and was then watching her giggle without end. She was great- and she was a lot like me in some personality traits... like as long as the other person is happy, i'm happy. So while I lay there with boobies pressed against my face, she couldn't have been more happy or content, because I was. Though the mechanism isn't perhaps the most noble, the show of affection of "your happiness makes me happy" is quite something, and I miss that. |
The "spot" that my wife and I would meet at, is no longer available. Not sure where we'd go...

I don't have any happy places. I have a lot of happy times though, which is just as good. There is something to be said for a place that exists just for the two of you. A little nook, a quaint cosy retreat from the world, a terabithia.
Maybe one day. |
We don't have a spot either. However, we did arrange to meet at a specific spot if the Big One (SLC is way overdue for a very strong earthquake) should ever hit and we were separated.

Yup. it's the park where we've been going for some 11 years. We got engaged there and it's where we often will grab a bagel and some coffee and head to (when it's not flooded lol) We have a lot of memories there, some risque and some sweet ;)
Other than that, our home is very much our 'spot' as well lately, I noticed that since we moved out of our apartment and into this house, since it's on 5 acers, we've developed spots we like to walk and chill right at our own home and that's pretty neat to me. It's amazing how attatched we can become to a place, even though it doesn't belong to us, even though it means different things to everyone who's there... to the two of us, it holds a special meaning and when we're there, it's ours for that moment. sp |
We've been living here for only about a year. We live together and work at the same school, though not exactly together there. Having an "our place" that was our place wouldn't work very well because we're usually going wherever we're going together.

I'm pretty sure our would be the wine bar in 'hood.
|
healer and my spot is probably the couch in my lounge where we spent most of our time when we first started going out:D
another would be a nice little, quiet opening that overlooks the ocean where we go sometimes just to relax, have a bottle of wine and chat:love: |
Well, since I don't live in the same city as my boyfriend/lover/SO our spots are a few special hotel rooms...the Residence Inn here in Orlando, the Marriott Courtyard in Tampa and the Marriott at the Tampa Airport. Now when I think of Marriott, I think of love.

Mixed ... do I need to get you a discount on the romance package!!?? ;)
I'm not with anybody now ... but it would have been the park where we'd meet halfway during the day ... lay out a blanket, read, take a nap .. or play "throw monkie in the marshy swamp" |
Spots, hmm. We don't have an "our" spot, per se, though plenty of favorite haunts in our various towns. We like coffee shops in general, so I could see a local one becoming a "spot" if we lived close enough to it. In the town where we met?... there are a few memorable spots from early in our relationship that have great memories, but it's not like we go back often to revisit them. Just one-time events that happened there, and we still laugh about them when we remember.
I guess one place would be when we were walking back from our first "date" (which I tease him about now, for not paying for me, since he was a bit shy then) and I was asking him about his salsa classes, and he stopped me on the sidewalk and showed me a little 5-second dance move right there. I thought it was very cute, but then again I thought he didn't like me because he hadn't paid for my lunch! :D But I still thought it was sweet. In any case, I have always thought of that time, when I walk by the spot on campus. :D |

The spots my wife and I frequent seem to vary with the passing years.
Lately it seems we hang out mostly at home, so when it's nice out I guess our spot would be our own backyard and in the winter: We spend more time in bed! |
