Business trip to NC.
Anything I should check out while I am there?
Sure. Where in NC?
NC is a BIG state....as RB said...which part are you going to?
Raleigh, NC. I am sorry not to mention that.
the durham bulls stadium.. (ya know, from themovie bull durham :D
duke university has a really pretty campus, the chapel is gorgeous... and on a nice day it's great for wandering around. |
I lived in Durham for 10 years, which is right next door to Raleigh. I don't know Raleigh all that well, but Bullock's Barbecue in Durham is probably a :45 drive, and has the best barbecue I've found in the state. I'm sure there are places to go in Raleigh that are about as good, though. The secret is: look for a wall festooned with pictures of famous people eating there, often photographed with the owner. That's how you can tell it's the real deal.
NC barbecue has a vinegar-based sauce on it. It's awesome, but totally unlike anything I've ever seen anywhere else. |

Lexington is about an hour and a half highway time from RDU. In Raleigh, Old Time BBQ is good, as is Don Murrays. Mind you, these are BBQ joints in the classic sense; very basic and in block buildings. However, they are very clean and they can cook up a mean Q |
Urgh. Cold and rain.
Yeah, it's not a great day to be visiting NC. Tomorrow ought to be better. Fall chill, but sunny. You brought a good jacket, I hope?
well, a light one. Hopefully I don't freeze my tail off.
