Grommit visits Scotland and Portugal (with Lucifer in tow)
I have just gotten back from our whirlwind tour of Scotland and Portugal and here are some of the 815 photos I took. Grommit, of course, is the star of many of them.
Grommit kicking back at my parent's cottage before the start of the trip The ruins of Linlithgow Palace (on the left), and St. Michael's Church (on the right). Mary Queen of Scots was born in the palace and christened in the church. The Pentecost Window in St. Michael's Church (commissioned for the 750th anniversary of the church): When Olliver Cromwell conquered Scotland in 1650, he turned St. Michael's into a stable and barracks. This is where his soldiers sharpened their swords: Forget history, now this is why I really came to the UK, mmmmmmmm.... Edinburgh Castle (on the right) and the Royal Mile, with the National Gallery in the foreground (seen from the top of the Scott Monument): Lady Stair's House and the Writer's Museum: Edinburgh with the Scott Monument in the background: The Pictish stone in the churchyard in Aberlemno. This stone dates from the 7th or 8th century: Grommit in front of the Peter Pan monument in Kirremuir, where J.M. Barrie (and Bon Scott of AC/DC) were born: Grommit at Urquhart Castle: I really rented the car so I could visit this place - the village of Pennan, where the movie "Local Hero" was shot: Grommit and I pose in the famous phone booth: Some classic Hielann coo's: Grommit searches for the elusive monster on the shores of Loch Ness: The bridge of Dom Luis I, as seen from Porto, Portugal: Downtown Porto: Grommit checks out the Tower of Belem in Lisbon: and the cloisters of the Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon: King Manuel I's fantastic Pena Palace in Sintra, Portugal: Sintra:

I so wish Grommit had gotten to see Nessie. And you had a picture of it of course. Thanks for sharing the rest. I was particularly taken with your Pictish stone, and the cloisters. Ah, to travel.

But generally speaking, no stabbing is a good thing. As for the tension... it was Grommit wasn't it? He's a quiet and crafty little bugger.

Your trip looks like it was a wonderful one. Scotland is one of my absolute fav countries (hee - that's a shout out to the Scots) and in 1994 drove from Seamill in the Southwest all the way up to Scrabster to catch the ferry over to Orkneys. Great trip - most glorious drive I've ever taken, out of over 30 countries visited.
It may be cliche', but did you have Haggis?
