Grommit visits Scotland and Portugal (with Lucifer in tow)
I have just gotten back from our whirlwind tour of Scotland and Portugal and here are some of the 815 photos I took. Grommit, of course, is the star of many of them.
Grommit kicking back at my parent's cottage before the start of the trip http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg The ruins of Linlithgow Palace (on the left), and St. Michael's Church (on the right). Mary Queen of Scots was born in the palace and christened in the church. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg The Pentecost Window in St. Michael's Church (commissioned for the 750th anniversary of the church): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg When Olliver Cromwell conquered Scotland in 1650, he turned St. Michael's into a stable and barracks. This is where his soldiers sharpened their swords: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3..._1095Small.jpg Forget history, now this is why I really came to the UK, mmmmmmmm.... http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Edinburgh Castle (on the right) and the Royal Mile, with the National Gallery in the foreground (seen from the top of the Scott Monument): http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Lady Stair's House and the Writer's Museum: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3..._0950Small.jpg Edinburgh with the Scott Monument in the background: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3..._0973Small.jpg The Pictish stone in the churchyard in Aberlemno. This stone dates from the 7th or 8th century: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Grommit in front of the Peter Pan monument in Kirremuir, where J.M. Barrie (and Bon Scott of AC/DC) were born: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Grommit at Urquhart Castle: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg I really rented the car so I could visit this place - the village of Pennan, where the movie "Local Hero" was shot: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Grommit and I pose in the famous phone booth: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Some classic Hielann coo's: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Grommit searches for the elusive monster on the shores of Loch Ness: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg The bridge of Dom Luis I, as seen from Porto, Portugal: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Downtown Porto: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3..._1444Small.jpg Grommit checks out the Tower of Belem in Lisbon: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg and the cloisters of the Jeronimos Monastery in Lisbon: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg King Manuel I's fantastic Pena Palace in Sintra, Portugal: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg Sintra: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ediumSmall.jpg |
That was awesome!
I gather the trip went well? |
Looks like you three had a blast!! I just wish Grommit was in the picture with the "Hielann coos".
|
That's some beauty pics there. You've got a keen eye. I'm glad your trip was such a success.
Where are you now? |

I so wish Grommit had gotten to see Nessie. And you had a picture of it of course. Thanks for sharing the rest. I was particularly taken with your Pictish stone, and the cloisters. Ah, to travel.

But generally speaking, no stabbing is a good thing. As for the tension... it was Grommit wasn't it? He's a quiet and crafty little bugger. |
That's fantastic you guys! I love all those pictures, and Grommet certainly looks comfortable in them. :D

Loch Ness
|
Hagatha... I think you need to try posting that again.
|
Great pictures! Looks like a lot of fun!

more of the Loch

Your trip looks like it was a wonderful one. Scotland is one of my absolute fav countries (hee - that's a shout out to the Scots) and in 1994 drove from Seamill in the Southwest all the way up to Scrabster to catch the ferry over to Orkneys. Great trip - most glorious drive I've ever taken, out of over 30 countries visited.
It may be cliche', but did you have Haggis? |
No Haggis --not a fan of innards.
|
cool pics... did grommit have any trouble with immigration? :D
|
how much did the travel cost for the dog? lol anyway great pictures :)
|
looks like you had a good time
Thank you for posting a pic of coos!! They are my favorite animal of all time!!!!! |
