Drowsiness

Sometimes at work i start to conk out. even though im enjoying what im doing enough i just start to have these spells where i want to take a nap in the worst way. then, as soon as im leaving work, i feel fine and awake.

Does this happen to you? i wondered what people did to fight these kind of feelings.... besides the obvious things you can do to keep your base energy level up, like getting enough sleep and a healthy excersize/diet plan.

sometimes i drop and do some pushups or go up and down a flight of stairs to get my blood pumping.

what do you do?

Oh man, this sounds exactly like what I went through. I kept getting sleepy at work even though I had a good nights sleep the night before. It go so bad that I saw my doctor and found out that I had type 2 Diabetes. I was having a Dr Pepper with lunch every day and then taking vacation time to go home for a nap. My doctor said that I was not sleeping, I was passing out!

Maybe you aren't this bad, but it could be that you sugar level is getting too high or low.

Yeah, seriously sounds like sugar level. Go to a doctor to get checked for that. Having a sugar level imbalance in the body is NOT something to say "oh, I'll just wait and see if it gets better" about. My aunt DIED (renal and heart failure) because she didn't monitor her diabeties. It was a terrible expierence for me to go through when I was younger- if there's ONE other person on this planet that you love and who loves you, go get yourself checked out.

On the plus side, diabeties is insanely easy to regulate with healthy diet and exercise plus the right medication. Same with hypoglaucemia.

Does it happen at a certain time of the day? After lunch? Mid afternoon? If so, you might try some Vitamin B in the middle of the day. Are you getting enough sleep? Is it warm or is there "white noise" in the back ground?

aha! the white noise clicks. i work with computers, but it so happens that at the moment i work with computers in an airplane repair shop right by a runway at a small airport. we don't have 747's coming through or anything, but there are small private jets and prop planes running all day. i thought it was just hitting and settling into my thirties but that might be more like it cuz i havn't had it happen as much on other jobs.

and as for diabetes, i doubt it (i'm overall pretty healthy) but i will definitely get checked at my next phys.

edit: i'll try some more vitamins too.

i still want to know though, are there any mental tricks or tips you guys have to fight it when you feel it? along the lines of cures for hiccups?

Hm. I drink coffee. Or, if it's too late in the day, at least some hot tea. I can usually stay alert as long as I'm imbibing something, but I try not to snack as that leads to other problems! Otherwise, beats me. I get ridiculously dozy the minute I hit lecture class - it's because I'm not involved, I'm sitting quietly, still, being talked at (she's a really boring lecturer), etc. I'd be fine if I could move or type or something.

Sugar!! - that and if you're like me, spending most of the day in an office, just get up and go for a walk for 5 minutes or so to get the blood pumping. Sitting in one spot for too long a time, makes me just want to have a little shut eye.

Are you eating something that is really high in sugar for breakfast or lunch? If so, that could be the problem. When you eat something like a chocolate bar or candy, it can raise your blood sugar very high. You then crash after that when it drops back down. It will leave you feeling tired and hungry.
I know whenever I eat ice cream I have to have a power nap!
